Just saw this on TV. Cnn.com has it as breaking news.
I was just about to post this.
And, as a personal tribute:
You'll be missed, you crazy dangerous animal wrestler.
Damn that sucks.
Dammit, the first news I get before anyone else on this board, and you beat me by two minutes ><
Oh damn that's sad. As much crazy shit as he does with animals, never thought it would end up being an animal that would do him in.
and i was just watching that SP episode where they spoofed his schtick with russel crowe.
Details from Austrailia
I'm pretty much speechless as like the article says Sting Rays are dangerous but not necessarily killers
Seriously I thought it was a joke . It sucks that his life ended like that. Will miss his Australian accent.
CRIKEY! That sucks...
Man, I thought he'd get it from an unpredictable crocodile, not some sting ray.
I had the same thought too to be honest.
i actually think its apt. he lived by the sword and died by it. its karma.
better than to be killed by a croc, which would taint his rep.
What a shitty way to go though. I mean, *THROUGH THE CHEST* ? Son of a bitch, that's underwater horror-flick style.
RIP Steve, and thank you for all the entertainment throughout the years. You brought the wildlife to our homes in ways no one before you ever has.
I've heard of people being killed by stingrays before. But usually, they stand on them at low tide, stingray whips its tail up and around their leg and cuts one of the major arteries. Never heard of someone being stabbed in the chest by one. That's just bizarre.
And living 5 minutes from the Australia Zoo, I can say... sadly... he probably won't be missed by too many in the area. Too many Australians just plain didn't like him that much, and locals who have had to put up with the grandstanding and his threats over the zoo. Those of us who've moved in from outside the area and weren't there while his father ran the zoo, and know the good he's done for the local economy, the local people, and the ecology of the country will miss him greatly, and remember him for what he's done in the tick column rather than the problems he's put in the cross column.
Certainly sad, but not really surprising, considering all the crazy stuff he did...
Can't say I was very surprised.
This frickin sucks
I was fond of him, and understood what he tried to do, but it's hard not to have seen this coming. He who lives by harassing animals, dies by harassing animals.
THat's a real shame. Irwin was very entertaining and really seemed to enjoy what he was doing. Too bad. Go in peace, you crazy Croc man, you.
Yeah, he could sort of be a whacko when it came to the animals, but he was certainly entertaining, and interesting to watch because he pushed the boundaries on animal television.
The saddest part of all is that he's married with (I believe) little kids.
