Come on, people, let's have suggestions about what Starscream's "tattoos" are all about. I have no idea, personally but would like to hear other suggestions.

According to Alex Milne, there was no explanation provided in the script for why Starscream has them, so the markings were shown in the comics to be applied by the Decepticon to celebrate his prevention of Dreadwing's coup. As for why Bay added them, I guess it was to make Starscream stand out since he has the same colours as Megatron.

They are markings he carved into himself to make himself resemble a great ancient bot.

They're obviously Cybertronion letters/words, so what are they saying. And my apologies if this thread already exists (searching with a BlackBerry won't work).

Here's a couple of translations I found for his tattoos:

    "I (heart) Mom"

The names of his kids: "Walker" and "Texas Ranger"

One points to his crotch and reads: "This way to the Allspark"

One of them is a picture of Elvis

    Here's what I think:

In order to lead on Cybertron, you need to have certain markings to show that you're a leader. Optimus and Megatron both had Cybertronian markings on their faces and bodies, so I suppose Starscream had some done too.

And of course, being Starscream he has to prove he's the most diabolical decepticon ever so he over does it.

My suggestion is that, uh, the explanation given in ROTF: Alliance issue 1 and associated interviews is completely correct.

Feel free to keep speculating, though.

I do agree. They make him look far more visually interesting and dynamic. They certainly do wonders for his toy! There's something that says "I'm Air Commander, bitch!" about them. He looks far deadlier with them.
