You all remember this scene, from over half a year ago, DOTM still remains fresh in my mind, but I've had something I've been wanting to ask...

Also, sorry if this has been posted before, but I do want you to know that I did search the forums, and didn't find anything on it.

Anyway, lets get down to it?
'Member this? Before Starscream wrecks this plane, he yells out "Locusts!"

Now, I see no flying insect in this scene, so what the hell is he talking about?

He's talking about humans. He repeatedly calls them insects, even refering to loving Sam's "little insect feet" as they try to run.

    Starscream's a... unique person.

Yeah I know, and in DOTM where he's threatening Sam and Carly, he said something about he loves it when they run on their little insect legs and the DIDN'T HAVE INSECT LEGS!

    It really bugs me.

I'm usually not this condescending online but...
    art thou serious?

    But to be serious:

It's one of those generic bad-guy insults where one act so condescending as to refer to their enemies as a lower life form.

    Hence, "locusts."

So I guess if someone tells you to duck, then you will say, "where's the duck?".

I took it as he was referring to the planes and the humans on them. He started attacking them right after he said it.

Locusts are flying pests and he was calling them that.

Yeah, he was trying to insult the soldiers.

Megatron refers to humans as insects as well. He calls Dylan "Insect Operative". And in Revenge of the Fallen, when he's kicking Starscream on the roof; "I can't rely on you to swat a single insect!"

    Uhg.

Someone is making topics just to make topics now.

Its painfully obvious with the context of the movie that Starscream was referring to the humans as insects and/or locusts.

At that point human soldiers had proven to be legitmate annoyances, as opposed to completely harmless like civilians such as Sam (or so Starscream thought). Hence he called them Locusts. A swarm of Locusts probably can't kill anyone directly, but they can cause alot of damage and annoyances.

Basically this. Locusts are a massive nuisance because there are so many in a swarm. They can cause a lot of damage to crops and whatnot, though I don't think they can harm people all that much. So while they were no real threat to Starscream (in his eyes), they were a serious annoyance to him.

he meant it as an insult to the humans as the cons refer to them as insects the humans are in a plane that makes them flying insects a.k.a locusts

He already did that in TF2, it would be a pity to see Starscream got beaten again. Maybe that's also a reason why Megatron is so depressed in chicago, because he doesn't have anyone to insult or misuse a guy like Starscream.

I'm gonna have to watch that scene again and listen closely, because if I recall Starscream saying anything during that part, I didn't hear the word "locusts." As for my input to this, though, I agree that it's just a demeaning term to refer to the humans, among all the instances in the movies of the Decepticons saying we're "insects."

Heck, in A Bug's Life, there's even that kind of disrespect and hatred between groups of (animated) invertebrates: "You're just a piece of dirt. No - I'm wrong. You're lower than dirt; you're an ant!"

in all the Transformers stories, you haven't gotten that the Decepticons are intolerant specie supremacists and referring to humans as insects/locusts has a derogatory meaning??
