Yes, another one! Hasbro's version just looked so unfinished and rough. Too many pins to tear him completely down, so I kept the factory grey and panel lined him. I'm going to take more pictures of the jet mode later and try to post those. If the image isn't showing up, I'll fix it....it's on my adelphia space and they're transistioning to comcast. Thanks for looking!

Looks good man. But I think he need the fraction symbols on his wings.

Yeah, I haven't decided to put the red stripes on the wings yet. Also (of course) the decepticon symbols :)  I don't have any, but was thinking of actually painting some right on.

    Thanks for the compliments!

    EDIT:

Here's 2 images of the jet mode...............

Yeah - give it the stripes. It needs them.

Not to mention the red stripes on the tailfins, if you're going for G1 accuracy.

I like it all except the red intakes on the jet in jet mode.

I really like the way the panel lines on the F15 jump out distinctly now. Nice job.

I kind of like the jet with no wing stripes. It looks good and more authentic in a grey color.

    Thanks guys :)

    Re: red intakes
I really wanted them to be red to break up the grey of the jet mode and to be more G1 "ish".... That's also why I did the tail fins in blue instead of leaving them grey.

The panel lining really does bring out the molding details! The detail on some of these molds is AMAZING....but Hasbro covers it up with paint, or it gets lost in the colored plastic. Remember what the grey prototypes looked like? -They looked so awesome, then the painted and colored versions came and so much detail was lost. Astrotrain was the best example of this IMO. His grey prototype looked incredible, then when he was released in the white, the detail was gone and he looked drastically different.

I was trying to go for a mix of G1 and a war within type feeling..............sort of a weathered/G1/war veteran look :)

So that's why I didn't put the red lines on initially. Still might though... I'll have to do a digital painting and see how it looks.

I think the panel lining helped tremendously.

This looks really great! I'm loving the panel-lined Seekers!

I think one thing no one has mentioned is that the null rays have basically been untouched. Why not panel-line them or add some extra paint apps as well?

That plus where others have commented on the stripes will make this nice piece even nicer! Great work! :thumb

Thanks a lot guys for all the comments!

superquad7: You're right, they are untouched. I probably will line them, just didn't get to it yet :)

The more I look at him though, the more I like him without the stripes. I think the blue tail fins and the red intakes break up the jet mode just enough to have him in that G1/war within grey area. I actually put stripes on him in photoshop, and didn't really like how it looked. Primarily, I think it takes from the panel lining on the wings.

The decepticon symbols are another story though! I definitely want to add those, but am not sure how to go about it. I have some special decal transfer paper for models that I can run through my printer, but you have to clearcoat them afterwards. Not sure I want to do that, so I may take another route. I think they'll really complete his look though.

Thanks a lot! You did an excellent job on yours too! I'll have to check out reprolabels if I can't hack something together myself with what I have.

I think the ultimate would be to paint them on....I have a steady hand for this stuff, but hand painting the symbols might be pushing it! I'd probably have to use a toothpick as a brush :)

Thanks! There are many ways to do panel lines. In this case, I put on heavy acrylic paint, then wiped it off before it dried. This leaves the paint in the lines, but removes it from the raised surfaces. Another way is to actually ink the lines in with very fine tipped drawing/inking pens such as Rapidographs. I'm sure there are even more variations or methods on panel lining.

Something else that I did with the grey parts....I used #000(next to the finest grade available) steel wool to knock some of the sheen off of the plastic. This helped to flatten the grey down just a little, and to make him look less "plasticy" and more realistic.

You would be better off printing out your own decals because that would be very hard to paint. I would think you would need some kind of stamp made up, dip it in paint, then put it on the plane.

I think you can get decal paper at Hobby Lobby or your local model shop.

Yeah, the stuff I have is the water slide decal stuff. I have clear and white...bought it quite a while ago though, so not sure if it would still be usable.
