What do we know of this new Stargate Series. I am very excited about it as Stargate has been a long watched Series with me. All I have seen was a very short clip so far which showed almost nothing about it.

From what I've heard about the basic plot....

So the Stargates have 9 chevrons on them. Only 7 are used normally to dial any gate address within the galaxy. 8 (and a power boost) are needed for dialing a gate in another galaxy. The 9th chevron apparently dials directly to a ship built by the Ancients to seed the universe with Stargates and another one tailing behind intended to be used for exploration of planets they visit, but the Ancients ascended and the project was forgotten. Apparently, eventually Earth figures out how to unlock the 9th chevron and sends a team. However, they find out once they reach the ship they cannot get back to Earth and are trapped.

From what I understand, Universe is actually supposed to be a darker, more serious show compared to the previous Stargate series. The actors/characters are also a bit younger, but they aren't as young as Methos suggests.

From what I've been able to gather it's premise seems to be doing two things. It's Stargate's version of Star Trek Voyager since their lost in space. Stargate's been following the premise pattern that Trek did which means the next show has to be either about what happened while Ra was still on Earth, or it would be claiming they actually did go on missions back in the 40s.

It also looks like they are trying to get Battlestar Galactica fans on board with the new tone of the show.

I do hope it's good. I too have liked all versions so far. Even the animated was terrible, what I saw of it anyway.

I hope that they do like all the other SG Series and have some of the other characters show up every so often. Its looks darker from the small clip I just saw so lets hope that it will have some nice humor as well. I really like that Lou Diamond Phillips is in the cast.

I simply call it Stargate: Voyager and leave it at that. I expect nothing more, nothing less. If it turns out to be a hell of a show, then it's a bonus.

I'm just not expecting much. After the final seasons of SG-1, the killing of Atlantis in it's prime, and basically copying Voyager, I don't have high hopes.

I'd love to be wrong, though.

Apparently Richard Dean Anderson will make appearances in about half a dozen episodes (GateWorld Anderson confirms SGU appearances) and Michael Shanks and Gary Jones will make appearances in the opening 2 parter.

Alos it looks like the third SG1 movie has been green-lit.

I'll give it a shot. I'm a big SG-1 fan and really liked Atlantis. Looking forward to the next SG-1 movie.

You are incorrect. Sci-Fi green-lit the Atlantis movie back in August.

Just because they're telling them to back up a sec, doesn't mean the green light has been revoked.

Postponement and outright cancellation are not the same thing.

Though I seriously doubt we'll see an Atlantis movie, really. The ending took care of everything, really.

They're back home, Teyla and Ronon chose to stay, McKay has Keller, etc. Other than perhaps going to find the Replicator Dr. Weir and save her somehow...they've pretty much tied it all up and you can call it done.

Remember that we were told Atlantis would end in a cliffhanger ending and be concluded in the DTV release. Well that certainly didn't happen. That ending left no cliffhanger whatsoever.

That, to me, says "Eh. If we get to it, we get to it."
