Follow along as I foray into the world of diorama construction! This project is my big undertaking for the following year. I hope to have it finished for my birthday in 2012 (you know, before the world ends). For those of you that may find this interesting and would like to see the work involved, additional photos can be seen by clicking the following link:

    http://s1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee404/Altitron/Starcraft Diorama/

The diorama itself will depict a scene on the Protoss ( http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Protoss ) homeworld of Aiur ( http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Aiur ). I will be building a Zerg ( http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Zerg ) Hydralisk and a pair of Zerglings, possibly an Overlord, as well as a Protoss Zealot with a pylon. Below are links to additional information on each of these creatures:

    Zerg Hydralisk: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Hydralisk
    Zerg Zergling: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Zergling
    Zerg Overlord: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Overlord
    Protoss Zealot: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Zealot
    Pylon: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Pylon

Features of the diorama that I plan to or would like to incorporate are as follows:

    Rotating (i.e. motor-driven) pylon
    'Realistic' Zerg 'Creep' ( http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Creep )
    An Overlord producing Creep
A creature native to Aiur ( http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Bengalaas ) struggling to escape the Creep
    Zealot Psi-blade ( http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Psi-blade ) LED's
Flora discoloration (i.e. wilting) as the Creep advances over it

Base figures that I sourced for this build are as follows:

DC Universe Classic sGreen Latern G'Hu ( http://cgi.ebay.com/DC-Universe-Gre...ultDomain_0&hash=item19c6191a75#ht_772wt_1139 ; Zealot head)
World of Warcraft Lady Vasj ( http://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Lady-Vashj-Figure/dp/B002D3032W/ref=pd_sbs_t_3 ; Hydralisk lower body)
World of Warcraft Succubus Demon ( http://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Succubus-Amberlash-Action/dp/B001EW0HHY ; Hydralisk arms, Zergling horns and tail)
Halo: Reach Elite Officer ( http://cgi.ebay.com/MCFARLANE-HALO-...ultDomain_0&hash=item3f0ab317d8#ht_3468wt_905 ; Zealot body, Hydralisk head)
Warhammer Chaos Warhounds ( http://www.ccgarmory.com/wafawaofch.html ; Zergling body)

You can see more of the supplies that I have bought for this diorama in my Photobucket folder. These were purchased at hobby stores such as Michael's, Lowe's, and HobbyTown USA.

For those of you interested in trying something like this for yourself, I highly recommend two books that I picked up before diving into this project: Games Workshop's 'How to Make Wargames Terrain' ( http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/c...jsp?prodId=prod1130254&_requestid=1218465 ) and Fine Scale Modeler's 'How to Build Dioramas' ( http://www.amazon.com/How-Build-Dio...1953/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307918161&sr=8-1 ).

Be sure to let me know what you think!

Thanks, Dan. Do you have a Battle.net account? I'm a pretty horrible player but I do enjoy team games.

As for the diorama, I finished the basic terrain sculpture today. It needs to be primed and base coated. That will happen soon. I started tearing apart the donor figures today as well. Building them will be my first experience with Aves Apoxie Sculpt. That should be fun! Thanks again to Budokhan for the tips.
