He got $351,000 in a out of court settlement.
That is just sick. $351,000 so he could play Jedi?
That nerd really made out ahead. I hardly think he should have gotten THAT much though.
Now he can afford his own camera and a real lightsaber...
Actually to be a stickler...
He was suing for $351,000 but settled out of court. That means that he took a "pay off" of any sort to dismiss the trial. It doesn't say how much they settled for.
And really, he broke a cardinal rule. No evidence ever.
great now he can spend it all on a lock of lucas' hair!
The guy got his life completely ruined. He had to drop out of school, and couldn't walk outside his door without being ridiculed. He's getting professional mental help to try and deal with it, and that is not cheap. $351,000 is hardly unreasonable, but it's probably not overly fair for the kids to cough it up. I doubt they saw this level of trouble coming from it.
But remember guys, he got 35,000 canadian. So that's like 3.50 US.
As someone who has felt the wrath of HS bullies I think he should have received more! lol. The prank went WAY beyond quaint litlle HS prank to a global Trashing of the poor kid. Totally not acceptable.
IF everyone who got ridiculed in school got money and got to sue we'd ALL be in court at some point.
Don't video your buffoonery next time chucklehead.
Good for him.
haha. eat it bullies.
I agree with this side. Those jack-asses should've thought twice about releasing the video onto the net. Now if he had chosen to release it... it would be a different story.
Maybe this is the kind of thing that has to happen to change the attitude of bullies. If there is a financial penalty for being an ass maybe you will seriously think about it before you act.
However... Surprised as hell to see this type of decision in Canada!!
Well, he got what he wanted.
As for the bullies, they asked for it.
*pulls up vid from his hard drive*
Good for him for getting something out of it, it did get out of hand, what with him now being a well known internet star.
However, it still doesn't change the fact he leaps around like a demented gibbon weilding a deadly broomsaber whilst filming it. He's still worthy of at least some ridicule.
I think I am of a different opinion. "life being ruined" is a matter of perspective. The kid could have milked it and made millions making appearances on the reality show circuit.
Now how the hell do the families of the little jerks that put the tape on the net pay for it? I didn't read the article fully, but any way ya slice it that is a BRUTAL amount to pay. Either its gonna be selling houses or savings or maybe even retirement funds to give little SWkid his money cuz his life was ruined. Yes I can see how it could dramatically affect a kid, but DUDE....he could have gotten so much more if he had just milked it.
And its hardly the fault of the parents of the little jerks.....yet they are the ones to pay their life's savings.
Does that mean if I put up the vids of Twin Twist dancing like a fool (or as he likes to call it, Rock God) to Gituar Hero he could sue me in a few years?
but then we'd have to change the ubiquitous saying "twin twist sucks!" to "twin twist sues!"
Separate names with a comma.
