Aren't those the quite poor, cropped transfers from the 1993 laserdisc releases?

They arn't cropped, but they're letterboxed and awful quality by today's standards.

Ugh...I hate this new 3D bullshit. Sure it was fun for some movies, but I just want the trend to stop.

This will give him a reason to make "3D" versions of all the toys again.

Why? Nobody is forcing you to see them and all the movies are released flat anyway.

I wouldn't mind seeing the original trilogy even though I own the box set.

It's just that I want to watch all three movies on the big screen since I never got to due to being born in 1988.

I think George Lucas should wait til the 35th anniversary (2012) of the franchise to do this.

    I love Star Wars.
I'd go see all the movies again 3D or not.

One interesting thing about the "changes": I took my kids to see Star Wars in Concert.
During the show they had several scenes from the movie.
When they were playing the Han Solo portion they showed Han and Greedo at the Cantina and Han shot first!

    3D is the new HD.
You still have people who don't recognize HD when they see it (I'm related to a few of them), but 3D is undeniable.

Forget Lucas doing a 3-D re-release of Star Wars. I personally would rather see Peter Jackson do a re-release of LotR in 3-D, and Imax! :D

    :lol  at the obvious Furmanism.

Can you show me the cover art for the DVD's? I need to know so I won't end up buying versions of the trilogy that were altered.

Oh no, here we go...who shot first...*runs*

Well, here's the link from a site called IWatchStuff.com that shows the DVD covers. Hope it helps.

Well that is not entirely true. When I went to see UP the theatres listed the time of showing in the paper. We planned out night accordingly and when we went to buy tickets the 7 o'clock show was infact a 3d version of the movie. Yes there was a 7:30 traditional screening, but it was sold out because the tickets are 3 bucks cheaper that the 3d tickets. So, you are right, no one is forcing me, I could have said screw it, we are going home, but in that moment I decided to pay the extra, not because I wanted too, but because I didn't want to disappoint my kids...

So your saying that you want 3D movies to stop because your local cinema has bad advertising and because you didn't book ahead at a busy time?

So, what was PG in 1977 is R in 2010?

Also, I'm fine with having Greedo shoot first.
Lucas said he always meant for Greedo to have shot first, but the way they inserted it into the Special Edition is bunk.
The digital "jerk" of Han's head is awful.
