I’d be more interested to see where the rebels get their hardware considering all their allies abandoned them.

 

If the movie opens three years after VIII then chances are they reconnected with their allies once again and have gained new ones due to Luke walking out with a laser sword and facing down the entire First Order.

If this is a large scale war then that's probably how they're resolving the Leia issue. She can be off leading one front while we focus on Poe's front, him being fresh off a leadership arc in VIII.

 

From the same place the First Order got all the crew and fire power to conquer the galaxy in the few hours between Episode VII and VIII.

 

Nobody will ever recast Leia. The idea is even more absurd and unbelievable than recasting Solo or Carlissian. Nobody will ever attempt it!

 

I don't know how I feel about a different actress playing Leia. I mean, on the one hand it's Princess Leia, who in my eyes has and will always be Carrie Fisher. On the other hand, having Leia played by another actress in order to fill out the plot could benefit the overall arc of the story and have a significant impact on how good the final chapter of this trilogy is.

Not to mention, an off screen death just doesn't feel befitting of the character. I think I would be happier if they are able to piece together scrapped footage of Carrie as Leia to make some sort of an arc and an onscreen death over an opening crawl saying she died. To me...that is worse.

 

Technically, they have already recast Solo.

Exactly. Her role as Leia was iconic, and were it not for that her death would not have effected as many people as it did. Replacing her, even if it was with another talented actress, ruins it. She is Princess Leia.

One of the scenes that I really loved in TFA was when she shows up after the battle at Maz’s castle to see Han. It’s moving, because it’s her.

Maybe with enough hard work and luck they can assemble something out of the existing footage and keep her acknowledged but not appearing in person... On comms, as a holo transmission? It worked for Palpatine or Snoke... It miiiiiiight work for Leia, IDK...

 

Definitely the latter. It's a big galaxy. She doesn't have to be in the part of it with movie cameras.

 

Maybe they can work out some ESB (Yoda dies) Rey sitting with Leia deathscene. A little anticlimactic but she could die from injuries suffered in TLJ. Off screen death is unacceptable.
