'Star Wars' class teaches lightsaber skills to adults - NBC News Entertainment
So, who's signing up?
I wonder how many lonely 40-year-olds will be attending?
hmm, theres one over here in San Antonio
Is it weird that I think that sounds awesome and that I would take that class if I lived near there?
Safety Tips for your Lightsabre
Ow fuck yeah!!!!
Now we need a "How to turn your DeLorean into a time machine" class and my life will be complete.
I know that guy! He hit me in the face with the polycarbonite lightpipe of his saber.
He paid me back with a light staff.
I'll just say it...
I'd rather have a zanpakuto than a lightsaber.
Though I'd seriously take these classes in a heartbeat if I had the chance. Heck, I want to fence in general.
Uh, what a waste of time.
Its more like an excuse for Star Wars fans to get together and indulge in some Lightsaber roleplaying (which is fine) but to dress it up as an actual Lightsaber class? Meh.
At least the basis for the class is the ESB Lightsaber duel, the original Trilogy used actual fencing/sword techniques. All the twirly shit in the Prequel Trilogy looks swish but has no practical relevance at all.
Lastly no way in HELL I would ever bring one of my Master Replica Lightsabers to anything like that, those things cost a fortune and they're smashing them around? Wowzers. Go buy A Hasbro Lightsaber for that kinda thing!
Damn straight. Those cheap, non-electric, fully-retractable sabers are surprisingly durable. People should just buy a few of those.
Well that's one way to get people into Fencing or Kendo I suppose
You actually have to bring a custom made lightsaber to these classes. They are made for combat. Costs about $100 more than a master replica.
Few reasons I WOULDN'T take this class. 1) I know how to handle a sword, I sure as hell can handle a lightsaber... 2) Jedi suck, I am Boba Fett damnit! 3) I see this as a easier way to poke fun at people, if kids want to do it, cool, but someone like me, not so cool
Actually, I could if I wanted. There was a way to convert those FX sabers to a more durable, and brighter blade. Not to mention, allows the blade to be removable. It's a Luxeon LED setup, and the blades are so durable, you could bash them against a metal bumper on a truck and they still don't break. If I find a pic to show how much brighter it shines, I will.
Awkwaaaard. Who's the teacher? The Star Wars kid?
This would be entertaining to see if they used real lightsabers.
Well, the duels in ROTJ and ESB (and even ANH, I guess) used stagefighting techniques based on fencing and european sword techniques. I guess that makes them somewhat more applicable than the wuxia style fights of the new trilogy, but it's still meant to be spectacle and theatre as opposed to combat.
That's pretty cool, but I'd prefer the stunt and stage-fighting group at my university.

made from metals, plastics, polycabonite bulletproof glass tubing, powered by no more than 4 AAA batteries, lighting by EL wiring and/or Luxeon-5 superbright LEDs.
Also, they can modify your crappy Master Replica by removing the weak LED string and tubing. I got 2 modded darth maul sabers.
