My two lest favorite Star Trek story types are Holodeck runamuk and time travel. That being said I'm still optimistic for this film. I guess this leaves an out for the hard core Trekkers that are all mad about this movie. They can pass it off as an alternate time line thing.
ARGH. Stupid choice by going back in time to when Kirk was already Captain. Why don't they just go back and kill Momma Kirk when he was still a seed in the tummy?
There's more to it, a lot more. STAR TREK: THE UNDISCOVERED NOMENCLATURE For example: Yeah. Um. I really, really hope it's good. Otherwise, start diggin' that grave, cuz they'll be taking the 'ol Enterprise on one last spin...to the netherworld.
Well, I have to say two things. One, I really don't like the time traveling plots that are ever set in the ST universes. Two, I don't remember ST TOS quite like TNG, but I remember Picard being more the bane of Romulans exixtance. I could be wrong. Oh well, I still hope it's good and will see it.
Hmmm... why is everyone acting so surprised? We've known this was the plot for at least a year now, right down to Nimoy's specific involvement.
Team Abrams haven't revealed plot details. CHUD is regurgitating rumors that were reported by AICN a year ago, which have recently been (partially) vetted by remarks from ST:XI actors Leonard Nimoy and Clifton Collins Jr. Here's a link to the AICN report from August 2007... AICN EXCLUSIVE! Moriarty?s Been Hearing Some Rumors About STAR TREK... -- Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.
Why don't they just kill whoever started the federation? Destroy Earth before we invent spaceships....or electricity? Etc, etc. I kind of wish it was just a straight prequel.
*Shudders* We shouldn't. Anyway, this plot sounds ridiculous. So, it's set during TNG, the Romulans pull off a Terminator and go back in time to when the crew of the Enterprise was young, kill them, and either alter history or create a parallel universe that doesn't overwrite anything. NO. That's just stupid. What they should have done is go back in time and kill Kirk when he's still in his mom's womb. That should work, but instead, we get this pathetic story that over-uses the time travel gimmick. It's been done before! Hell, it's been done WAY TOO MANY TIMES! I may not be a Star Trek fan, but even I find this plot to be incredibly dumb. Look, the Star Trek franchise is on its mutilated last leg. Just let it die in peace. Another Star Trek movie is just going to kill it. It'll be the final nail in the coffin.
Yeah, this isn;t exactly new news. I'd still be interested in this being made, the prequel concept that is before Kirk...
