Okay, I sort of got this idea from Megacron's post. It always seemed like a dubious project because Blackout's monstrous forms don't really suggest Springer's athletic G1 proportions at all.

And then I got to thinking, and decided to see how it might look... and here it is! I think it works surprisingly well, and doesn't require much alteration. I haven't done any painting, but I photoshopped the colours on the last couple of pictures.

Here he is with his back kibble:

Yeah, a classic 5-fingered fist would be more G1, but compared to most of the movie TFs, Blackout's hands don't bother me much... something about the proportion of them makes them a bit less weird than the spindly scissor-claws of the other Cons.

Plus, if 2 fingers is enough for the Ninja Turtles, I guess it's enough for Springer. :)

Nice idea. I think it looks pretty good so far.

Honestly, I could see Springer working in a movie sequel without being a Triple-Changer. Helicopter mode is good enough.

I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Honestly... I'm not sure if there will even BE a finished product. :)

I was just sort of playing around with my Blackout, wondering if Megacron's idea had any potential, and I was like "Hey, this actually sort of works!"

As for a car mode... no chance!! Kitbashing viable triple changers out of single-alt TFs is asking for trouble. Heck, even most of the official TF triple changers barely manage to pull off 2 alt modes convincingly. :)

I've already realized that rather than keeping the cockpit together like in these pics, I should let the automorph part flip out, but paint it bright yellow, to reflect Springer's distinctive yellow chest.

I'm intrigued! Very original and cool idea.

Out of curiosity, what degree of work goes into taking off the back kibble? Is it a "snap off/snap on" type of deal or is there a bunch of reworking that goes into it?

You got it! Energon Hotshot, though I had already been messing with that head. I cut off his bulky "collar" and his little "earmuffs". Then I used a black marker to darken his cheeks and put a shadow under his visor, so the face looks a little less chubby than usual.

I didn't know what I was going to use the altered head for, but when I got the idea to try out a Springer, the head was all ready to go. Serendipity I guess, because it suits Springer well. :)

Besides attaching the head, the only other bit of actual reworking necessary on this figure would be some cutting on his lower legs. There's a knee spar on Blackout that slightly interferes with the knee bending in the Springer configuration. It'd be pretty easy to cut off though.

Also his hands will have to be altered if you want him to hold his blades properly. I just used some clay to keep them in place for the pictures.

By all means go ahead and make this custom! Like I said, I'm not sure if I'm going to go ahead with it right now, but I'd be thrilled to see someone else try it out! I'm actually working on my Movie Swindle at the moment too. :)

And yeah... the back kibble pops right off and on again. Super easy... it's meant to come off to become his propeller weapon. Also, the individual blades just clip on and off the main propeller, so it's easy to remove them to become swords.

I should just mention that anyone who wants to do this should know the trick to removing Blackout's head...

At first, it appears that his head is glued together... this is not the case. If you pry the red light piping out of the back of his head, you'll see that there is a screw hidden behind the light piping. This screw comes out easily and the head splits into 2 halves.

It may seem obvious, but without any screw in evidence, I'd assumed he was glued, and I wasted a bit of time trying to pry the head apart so I could remove it. Damaged the edges a bit too. I figure if I can save the next person this trouble, it would be worth it.
