I'm a little frustrated by how little the SPOTLIGHT character was in the spotlight, as well as a lack of character profile art at the end, like we got for the Autobots. However, I love that design; I wonder if that's the design that was originally slated to be a Titanium figure, or will be upcoming as a Classics 2.0/Universe figure? 'cause man, that's one sweet update to the classic Galvatron design! Also, I love how Galvatron keeps remarking on the little things he does just to annoy his "master".
This issue definitely agreed with me. It introduced Galvatron perfectly, setting up his character while giving him an aura of mystery that I hope will be delved into later, but from the way things are happening on Earth, his side story will be resolved in a much later story arc. Galvatron seems slightly saner though a little bit preachy, but definitely no less a badass as he used to be. He's still prone to giving his own holier than thou internal monologues (though I kinda miss him going "oh, I'm forged in the fires of a god" or "that which was Megatron claws at my sanity") Poor Leadfoot, I hope they don't use G2 characters as more fodder to be killed off in future issues. I love my G2 characters. I have one gripe with this spotlight, and that is the characterization of Hound. I've never pegged Hound as a leader sort of guy since he always was a bit uncomfortable with his role as a warrior, so to see him as an assertive squad leader here seems somewhat out of character (though I guess with the attitude Sideswipe is showing, it would be enough to drive one to aggression.) Granted this is a new continuity and IDW is trying to rebuild G1, but I always thought they were just trying to revise the history and settings while keeping to the core of the characters. Then again, there have been slight revisions to the personalities of characters like Galvatron and (to a smaller extent) Kup, and with the changes in TF history necessitates certain changes in characters as well.
With regards to Hound...now you know what I mean by characters that feel "off", especially with regards to Megatron being a "socialist"! LOL! But IMO, Hound's isn't so bad as Megs because he does seems more matured and rational even in the G1 cartoon. By the way, I don't recall Hound has ever been uncomfortable as warrior at least in Marvel bio for him.
The Dreamwave MTMTE bio extrapoliated from his Marvel bio with the "uncomfortable with being a warrior" bit which I feel fits him considering how much of a dreamer he was and his secret desire ot be a human. Also, in the G2 comics, he came off as slightly more pacifistic than his downright gritty Autobot comrades. However, this Hound has yet to journey to Earth. Perhaps such an event would trigger a change in Hound's character that would lead him to become the Hound we are more familiar with.
Oh okie, but I don't remember the original Marvel one saying that. I normally refer to the Marvel one because they were the guys who originally wrote even the tech specs for the G1 toys.
This was one of the best IDW issues yet!! The art by Guido was gorgeous and the story I thought was very tight. I like the guido/furman team alot, reminds me of when I would pick up armada/energon monthly from Dreamwave. It was cool to see sideswipe and his cybertornian form. I also liked that Simon captured his brash personality quite well. Good to see he wants to find sunstreaker...can't wait to see how that ends up. I'm not mad that galvatron/megatron arent the same, I know this is a different universe so as long as the story is good so be it. Nice to see some G2 characters threw into the mix along with old hands like hound and warpath. I really wish we could see more of Guido's work though...really been missing it. Congrats to all involved, you did a great job.
I don't get how Galvatron recovered so quickly from Sideswipes head shot so easily? I get it he's dead. He's animated by something other than sparky-dom, but still, you don't just brush off having part of your head blow away.
My theory is that something happened in the dead universe which changed him into what he is now. We'll have to wait and see what happened in the dead universe before we truly know.
Actually, Unicrons damaged head is in the background. I also like how they are drawing from more than just G1 in any given squad.
Looks like I need to check out that cover again. I think there's also a Sharkticon and that creature from the Dweller In The Depths episode.
This is one of IDW's best comics EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Furman's story was top notch, and really develops the story, and shows where things are heading...and I love it. I've never been much of a fan of Guidi, but he's really took things up a notch and the book is beyond fantastic!. I loved the slight Galvy redesign and how he was potrayed. In the show Galvatron was never as menacing as Megs...I really missed Megs. But Furman did something I've never seen before, he made Galvatron a threat, dangerous, a villian!
Actually, if you're keen on seeing how dangerous Galvatron is...I suggest you check out some of the UK TF comics...
I was so gripped with that fight scene at the end Sixshot + Omega Supreme + Galvatron + Thunderwing = Best Transformers Comic Ever!
With the way the IDW comics are progressing, and everyone heading to earth, I can see that as a possible upcoming clash in IDW's future, but not very soon. Right now, I think they seem more focused on the Earth story rather than Galvatron's sub-story. It might be possible that some of the heavy-hitters like Omega or Sixshot might be taken out in the Devastation arc so we may never see such an epic confrontation. I have my fingers crossed though.
I was happy to see Leadfoot get killed, after seeing that bum kill Razorclaw back in the Marvel G2 comic. But why did he go down so easily, all Galvatron did was grab his neck? Hopefully we'll also get to see G2 Dreadwind and Smokescreen, but I think they will have to rename them since their G1 namesakes are still around. Did anyone else think those aliens looked like Quintessons?
I figured he had already shot\attacked him and was grabbing him by the throat when he snapped out of the flashback.
I think he left Hound and the others alive, but I got the impression Leadfoot was dead. I could see how he may have been in stasis lock or the like, though.
