Surprised there's no thread about it. Came out today. It was... ok. Pretty decent, actually.

    {SPOILERS... kinda}

Revealed the reason some 'Bots don't trust him - yup, he was a Decepticon back in the day. Went by the name Deadlock. Slaughtered a bunch of Autobots way back when...now he's lookng for redemption and a second chance. Kup gives it to him. Decent enough backstory for the character, i suppose.

Also... OLD SCIENCY PERCEPTOR! For...umm, a little bit at least.:lol

Quite honestly? I thought beforehand people were waaaay overreaching themselves on pegging Drift as a Mary Sue since we had seen so little of him.

Now I have to agree with them. Drift is totally a Mary Sue. He's even got the "I'M SO AWESOME I DON'T BELONG TO ANY FACTION ANYMORE, CONFLICT AAAANGST" backstory.

I did like that they finally made a reference to Spotlight: Kup, even if it was a fairly throwaway line.

I made my comic guy read Drift as he wasn't getting my angst over this character. He now understands.

Though the good side of the comis is that it "expains" Kup, and Perceptor's changes... to a point.

i liked it for the most part, it was a good fast read, and lots of action.

didnt like the feel of no real back story, just "hey i use to be a con and now i want to change due to a bunch of non-commited TFs.", and kup just accepting it due to him kicking so much ass.

did like the explination of kups re-acclimation into the war

I liked this comic - it should be interesting to see where IDW takes Drift in their comics.

I really liked the throwback to Spotlight: Kup - I'm surprised most people caught that.

    *Spoilers*

I also think that Drift's rescue of Perceptor will be what leads Perceptor to become more "badass". Sort of emulate the guy who saved him.

There's going to be a ton more stories written about Drift. They have lots they can do with this guy and I'm looking forward to it. It's about time we see some new characters.

The story gives us a good reason for Kup walking around and for why Perceptor doesn't say much anymore. (Would you if your mouth nearly got you slagged?) As for the center of the Spotlight, I can take him or leave him. He got a good set up that explains a little about him and paints him in a good light.

I think his best line was when he compared the Autobots today to what the Decepticons were like at the start of the war.

For some reason I sorta remember reading somewhere in AHM about Kup's time being marooned and crazed...or am I imagining it?

I thought the Spot was decent. Liked it more for Perceptor and Kup than Drift. Drift is okay. I like him but I don't love him. I love Coller's art though so it was a good read that way. I liked the bit at the begining too, I like seeing other alien planets in the TF Universe.

As I recall, it was just another throw-away reference (like the Decepticons "perfecting" the combiners) since Kup's Spotlight background wasn't part of McCarthy's vision for Kup.

    Are you kidding?
I think everyone has been waiting for any reference to Spotlight: Kup.

The following is my totally honest opinion:

The idea of the Third faction and the scenes with Kup are all that kept me from throwing this comic in the garbage.

Fuck you Shane McCarthy, you and your shitty writing.

I think I remember now, something along the line of 'Kup knows a thing or two about being going crazy', something or rather.

    Meh.

I did really like the bit at the beginning, though, where we get a glimpse of how the rest of the universe sees Cybertronians: immortal, crazed, soulless machines fighting a ridiculously long civil war that no one else cares about. Doesn't matter what badge they wear; when the robots appear, property values go down. "Our world, their war" indeed.

Yeah, "Their war, our world" is a great analogy for the war and how it is seen by others. Cybertronians are larger than 90% of all sentient life in the galaxy, heck, probably 90% of ALL life in the galaxy. It's like two kids fighting over an anthill. To them the fight doesn't seem big at all. To the ants, it is devastating.
