No and I don't think this episode was written by Rusty Shackleford either.

Alright so I have watched both of the episodes and overall my impression was interested but meh. This is my review of the Season 3 premiere of Robots in Disguise: Crash Combiners - Episode 1 & 2 King of the Hill.

    Plot
Alright so I was kind of mixed with the Season Premiere. On one hand I was interested in events and characters, on the other hand I stared bored at the screen. This was a result because there are two parallel storylines. You have the Autobots dealing with the Stunticon known as Heatseeker, then you have... ugh Russell's game. As you can tell I was pretty annoyed that I wasn't able to enjoy half of what the premiere had to offer. This makes the season 2 premiere so far the best out of the three premieres. Okay so with the Autobots, I found it a bit interesting how Sideswipe's and Strongarm's arguing has changed a bit. they seem a lot more cooperative this time around with a few arguments here and there. As for the Stunticon plot, I know the Stunticons are all about speed and stunt, but really, their ultimate goal is to takeover Earth's roads? That's a pretty lame goal... I miss Steeljaw and Starscream. As the B plot, I was so bored. Really Russell trying to win the football serves no purpose but to be a lesson for the kids; it adds nothing to the plot. But my interest was peeked when the minicon opened the Groundbridge and your hear Soundwave's voice. I literally gasped in surprise and wonder what he could possibly with the Decepticon Hunter.

    Characters
So as you can tell from my thoughts in the episode, I felt that Strongarm and Sideswipe really shined in this episode. It was nice to see them more willing to get along with less arguing this time. My guess is that Strongarm probably appreciates Sideswipe more after she thought that he had died during the season 2.5 finale. But I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two and how they even offered advice to each other. Bumblebee I kind of question, I really don't understand why he seemed so relaxed, even after Sideswip and Strongarm warned him about the missiles. It wasn't until it was pointed out that the missiles could set out the nuclear waste canisters that he dropped the relaxed attitude. I felt it was ridiculous how he kept trying to brush it off when in the past he would be more concerned. I think defeating Starscream might have gone to his head. But I did find it interesting when he said this line "It doesn't matter, Heatseeker, to me you're just another con!" The way he said that line, seems to indicate the two might share a history. Bumblebee did note that he was familiar with him when Strongarm described Heatseeker's attributes. Grimlock got a few comedic moments that made me laugh and Drift didn't really do much. As for the humans, I was bored and annoyed with them. As for the crazy man in the desert, he was funny at first, but I felt he quickly wore out his welcome with his reappearances in the episodes.

    Special
I have to admit, I really liked the music in some of the scenes, had a pretty catchy tune. I also found it interesting that it's because of radiation that Bee's team are transformed into Combiners. Back when I first saw the picture of them as a huge Combiner, I had thought Drift wasn't part of the Combiner team because I had only seen the components on the Combiner that resembled Bumblebee, Strongarm, Sideswipe, and Grimlock. Much to my surprise, I see I'm wrong with Drift acting as the sword for the Combiner. This is pretty interesting, I don't think a Transformer in a Combiner team ever acted as a weapon. The closest I could think of is Bruticus who uses the blades on his arm to act as a shield in Fall of Cybertron. Though I wonder how they're going to make Optimus a Combiner too because you know that he's always bound to appear at some point. It would be interesting if he becomes part of the larger Combiner as well, though what he will act as I'm unsure, perhaps a shield? The other thing that had my interest is the minicon working for Soundwave. At first I thought he could be the RiD version of Frenzy, but I found the two of him in the store and learned it to not be the case. But I like the idea of him granting the user flight and the fact that much like Soundwave, he has the ability to open Groundbridges.

So overall the Season 3 premiere was okay but it's flaw really tend to shine through. Fortunately, the parts that interested me helped save this episode from a bad score. So I give King of the Hill, both Episode 1 & 2 a 7/10. Let's hope this season picks up and proves itself even better than the previous.

    Season 3 Scores

    Episode 1 - 7/10
    Episode 2 - 7/10

    Season 3 Average So Far - 7/10

Part 1 was alright. There was a lot of talking this episode. Half of the episode was downtime and even when Sideswipe and Strongarm were on their mission, there was a lot of talking. Fortunately, it wasn't quite as juvenile as this show usually is. It was amusing seeing what everyone did while bored, plus Bumblebee being so happy just archiving relics was rather amusing. Bee kinda came off as a poor leader this episode, but I'm glad he's showing more personality than he usually does. Sideswipe was a bit of a pain, but it at least makes Strongarm seem sensible, rather than the nagging bitch she came off as, back in season 1. The old crazy man was the best part of the episode. Oh, also, it's neat that Hank is back, but that B story was pretty dull and pointless. Plus, this is the first time I've found Denny thoroughly unfunny.

The action wasn't anything all that spectacular. The opening chase scene with the policemen was OK and I guess the the chase with the 'Bots later was OK as well. There were some good moments, but most of it was uninspired. The scene with Swipe and Strong running from the missiles really wasn't as tense as it could've been and I became quite bored at that point. It's a pity more time wasn't spent developing the 'Cons. Then again, the grey Stunticon seemed pretty annoying. Plus, how much he sounded like Grimlock was really distracting.

Edit: Wow, it wasn't Grimlock's voice actor. It really sounded like him putting on only a slightly different voice.

Overall, the episode was passable. I'm glad they're improving the character moments for the 'Bots a little, but the episode really needed more action.

Also, I like to think that the 'Bots all wanting something more interesting to do, while their boss was obsessing over relics was a Jab at TF Prime's producers Orci and Kurtzman, even if it probably wasn't meant to be.

The episode was good, just not suitable for a season opener. If if a two-parter is going to focus on a single Decepticon, at least make him somebody. He was cool, but a nobody just working for a somebody (Motormaster). Heatseeker kicked butt because all the Autobots have done since last season is sit on theirs. He wasn't truly formidable or even interesting like Overload. A season starter needs to stand out, and this one just didn't do that. Still, two decent episodes.

I love the episode! I've just finished watching ep 1. I love how Sideswipe and Strongarm interact to each other. They're so goddamn cute. Even better, Sideswipe didn't get the reset treatment this time lol. The dialogue for certain characters were pretty fleshed out and has more dynamic more than the other episodes which looks pretty boring or seems too plain. As for Bee's side, damn......., he's becoming too relax, over confidence, I say. It's not bad tho. They gave Bee's personality more dimensions. The bad part is, the con. Heatseeker isn't really that major or interesting 'con. Sure, he's enjoyable and is one of the major cons team (the Stunticons)but why him? As a two-parter opening eps, having just him doesn't suit at all or at least give the team more story, not just called the name out and leave it right there without explanation. Also, human's part were.........pointless. Really, they're more likable character than the TFP's one but the whole sub-plot serves no purpose at all but rather annoying. Even though the weird old guy was funny and enjoyable anyway :)  On the bright side, this episode should be a focusing/spotlight on the Autobots so Heatseeker is forgivable.

I'll give the first ep 8/10. Minus 2 by Russell and his friends, and being RID (joke) OwO

That was a solid two-parter. For me, it's a really good season opener. Gave a lot of unanswered questions and kept me wanting to know what's going to happen. Felt like Transformers: Prime and I always think of it as a good thing. I didn't expect to see Ultra Bee this early.

Sideswipe trying to use Bumblebee's rallying cry was hilarious.

Part 2 was OK. It was all action and no story. There were some moments of quite fluid animation but there wasn't really any complex action sequences to take advantage of it. Heatseeker really needed more development. Bumblebee really was stupid in this episode. I mean, if he couldn't even figure out that those barrels had oil in them, he must've sucked as a Scout. Also, did Bee (or should I say the writers) forget that his Decepticon Hunter can turn into any weapon? When Heatseeker was running from him, he could've just shot the barrels. I do like that there was some set-up for future stories. I hope there's gonna be an explanation for how the Autobots combined by crashing. I know that's the gimmick but if nothing brought it about and it's just an undiscovered Cybertronian power, it'll be unbelievably stupid. I liked the twist that the Minicon that saved Bumblebee was actually just trying to get a chance to steal his Decepticon Hunter for Soundwave. Overall, this was a passable season opener but probably would've benefited from not being drawn out into a 2 parter.

I believe it's implied the radiation combined with the missile explosion is what granted them the ability to combine. The characters often brought up that they weren't sure what kind effect the constant exposure to the radiation would have on them.

Part 1- started off kinda boring, but given how that was a plot point it's at least somewhat excusable. I'm really liking Heatseeker so far- a welcome addition to the seemingly ever-growing Stunticon roster. 6/10, an okay-ish first part but really only watchable to get context for the second part.

Part 2- Man things really picked up. I love that they had a plot point where Grimlock was too slow to escape form the missiles, but he was able to help at the end anyway. Pacing was a LOT better, and while the B-plot was still boring Denny's speech was actually really well done. The real talking point is the not one, not two, but THREE major ending stings- Ultra Bee just suddenly appearing (his toy isn't even on the shelves yet...), Motormaster keeping his obsession with ruling the roads and implying that there's Cybertronian tech just kind of laying around (or perhaps planted by the Mini-Con?), and of course the return of motherfreakin' Soundwave as a possible big bad and the fact that the seemingly Autobot-allied Mini-Con combiner are working for him. 8/10, really got me excited or the season and glad to see there's more continuity going on this season.

Well Overload and Underbite certainly aren't known characters either. Not to mention how Heatseeker manages to escape, which the other 2 didn't.

I've been watching RID for a while now.

Overall the show is a fairly non-threatening light hearted affair. Interestingly designed but ultimately ineffectual villains. Low stakes plots that pulls all punches very much like TFP although this time the tones implies that from the get go.

I was fairly surprised to see that this season 4 opening seemed to have a bit more purpose behind it and featured a new villain who had more character and purpose than many who have come before.

So whilst it certainly doesn't break any TF TV molds this seemed a notch above a lot of previous RID efforts.
