so if megatron started the war before sentinals supposed death on cybertron. then that means he already knew about the fallen. so was sentinal working with the fallen or was megatron keeping them apart and using them to his advantage

Uhmmm uh... why would sentinel be working with the fallen?

Even though sentinel is the main villain of the film, it's pretty clear that he's not a decepticon. Just a great big jerk with his own agenda.

why is that clear? because he kills autobots or because he will do anything to save cybertron no matter the cost like decepticons?

    .

What we do know it is implied the Fallen almost had the entire Prime dynasty massacred though his minions while hiding himself away from harm in the Nemesis. Sentinel and Optimus are the only two post Seven Primes we know that survives.

We also know Sentinel Prime led an expedition involving an experiment about 17 dimensions where Einstein's Theory of Relativity does not apply as per Sam's trance rant. Also he is the captain of the Ark.

Note: Comic info may be disregarded after the movie
Sentinel Prime was the former leader and founder of the Autobots but disappeared with the Ark during the war. There is no indication Sentinel was aware of the Fallen's presence or manipulation of Megatron.

Sentinel taught Optimus the morality of their ancestors about Freedom. Megatron was also his student. In Foundation he retired once Cybertron was saved and their race unified. Burnt out he left the leadership to his two successors. Until the war began that ruined everything he had worked for.

In his eyes Optimus and Megatron killed their race. Sentinel Prime if anything is pragmatic. Peace at any cost. Pragmatism led him a campaign for a bloody unification of Cybertron to save it. Pragmatism is what led him to sue peace with the Decepticons.

Pragmatism is also what leads Sentinel Prime to enslave the Human race to rebuild Cybertron. Pragmatism and a bit of hatred is what led him to usurp the leadership of the Decepticons from Megatron.

Most of the Decepticons under Megatron were once Autobots under Sentinel Prime's leadership. Megatron's Decepticons being the second generation to the Fallen's first generation Decepticons.

Character wise he is comparable to Gundam G's Master Asia who disillusioned with his ideals.

RedWolf - that is an interesting point, that sentinel sees megatron and optimus has bad has each other for different reasons. That their points of view on how their races should act has still caused the same damage, they both have caused death and destruction, that cybertron would be better off without optimus prime and megatron. From sentinel's point of view, cybertron would flourish without the 2 iconic rivals.
