I've read a lot about these "sabot rounds" and I was just curious how it's pronounced. Is it "say"-bot? Or does it rhyme with "rabbit", as if it were short for sabotage? Other?

From being in the miltary Sabot rounds used in the Abrams tanks are basically armor piecing rounds. they are meant to go through the toughest armor in the world (mainly against other tanks). Now the ones in the movie are a comination of both explosive rounds and sabot (according to the comic adaption that I read). I hope that helps you.
