i remember the days when they made all kindsa big deals about it...special reports...news bullitins...nowadays i didnt even know it was up there:-??
Yoga Fire! If it sounded like a loud double gunshot it was probably the shuttle. The orbiter sends off two sonic booms, one from the nose and one from the bulge on the tail. At least from what I remember.
Yup, it looks like space isn't much of a "frontier" nowadays. That's either because we can't or won't make advances in order to break news, create interest. I mean, we landed on the moon, great. Nearly 40 years later we're no closer to getting to Mars (I exaggerate but still). See what I'm saying? It disappoints me and apparently I'm not alone.
I was just going to write the same thing. they used to wheel tvs into our classrooms for launching and landing, too.
I am really glad they made it back home safely, but the shuttle has to go...POS! They are going back to rockets until they can strap a ship to a plane. NASA is lame...do UFO stuff...Ive seen it!
I thought the shuttle came in on no power or is it because it came in so fast? I used to live on a Airforce base so I know all about Sonic Booms. A good sonic boom would shake your whole house, be more than a gun shot...hmmmmmm...
The shuttle does come in hella fast - it started out literally at orbital velocity, and even a good sonic boom won't rattle your house if it's far enough away. According to NASA's website it's still supersonic about 25 nautical miles/5 minutes from the runway.
