Sweet. I've been looking to pick one up, may wait for this instead.
With the screen size the same, just how much smaller can the thing get?
If it's true, here's hoping the analog control is more comfortable.
I can't find the link but right after that quote was posted a different rep for SCE clarified those statements with something along the lines of:
'What he meant was that we are always working to make our products more cost effective and streamlined. There are no plans for a redesigned PSP in the immediate future.'
So in other words, they're trying to make the guts cheaper to build, but don't plan on redesigning the shell or features.
I was thinking the same thing. In order the shrink the PSP without shrinking the screen, is by shrinking the bottons, and that would suck.
IMO, the PSP looks sweet the way it is. It still looks way hotter then the DS lite. It dosn't need a redesign. Sony should consentrate on giving it MORE badass games along with "making the guts cheaper" so the PSP is about $150. That will make me put down my DS to actually buy a PSP.
Hmm.. If it makes it cheaper, than I'll buy one.
If they are redesigning it I’ll wait to see what the cost and look of the thing is but unless something happens to the one I already have I doubt I’ll get one right away.
if they redesign it, it needs a second analog control
clamshell design trims a lot off. Imagine it being merely a centimeter or two wider than the screen alone. and likely the same thickness, if not a little slimmer.
It's no secret that the main use for the PSP has been to watch movies, I'm not sure a redesign will change that. It just seems that Sony is working to bring more hype to their system, which, BTW, is another example of how Nintendo changed the industry as we know it.
Also, I shudder to think of the technical knowledge (or lack thereof) of the person who wrote this snippet:
Yeah, that's just a proof of ignorance.
An improved PSP won't be much good if they can't improve upon the range of titles available for it.
Meh, I think it is the perfect size and it looks pretty sweet too. Maybe if they add a second analog.
Consoles have gone through regular revisions since the 2600.
What it really needs is that control stick that the Neo Geo Pocket Color had instead of that crappy d-pad. Digital control perfection that was.
If it maintains the sexy screen and doesn't toss out additional functionality, I'll be perked.
Here is a quick mock up of a clamshell design. As you can see, this would trim roughly 40% of the width off the original design, and it should maintain the same thickness. Far more pocketable.
