Was I the only one that didn't care for Soundwave's voice? It sounded less Soundwavey and more Dr. Clawish.

That's how Soundwave sounded whenever they forgot to modify his voice in G1. Knowing that, and knowing the style of voice modification they're doing in the movies compared to in G1, I was OK with it.

No you are not. Dr. Claw-ish/Satan in "The Golden Child"/generic "evil" voice...for the life of me I don't understand why they couldn't just make Soundwave sound like "Soundwave".

I didn't care for it, either. Sounded too generic.

No it wouldnt have. It wasnt hard to understand originally. They could have had some kind of blend between G1 and movieverse. Give it some kind of vocode.

I agree. Thus, most of the movie didnt make sense.

First viewing the voice left me a little disapointed. Second viewing i was a lot more comfortable with it.

He still spoke every flat and controlled even without the vocoding.

I think it's hilarious that with the almost universal and mind-boggling acceptance among fans of Devastator balls and the Tardotwins, nearly everyone was pissed off by Soundwave's voice. Sure, I miss vocoding, but it's not nearly on par with some of the other travesties that went on in that movie.

It was an error on the G1 series that certainly became popular. I think it beats better than his monotone voice or whatever you want to call it. Never grew up in the 80s because of the 90s. How was I supposed to know how you adults all functioned back in those days? Now is better than yesterday's models.

It sounded better without the vocoder. A much better fit.

No way, it was very disappointing. They went through whatever trouble it may have been to get Frank effing Welker, and he does Dr. Claw instead of Soundwave! WTF?!?!?! That was just a bad call. The vocoder would have made the movie infinitely more awesome than it already was.

I mean, they got Frank Welker. And besides, Soundwave is Dr. Claw, just without the Vocoder.

Soundwave's voice was a perfect fit.

I'm glad you made this thread though, we needed another one on it.

This is true, but it was so, so, so close to being perfect. They chose poorly. Believe me, I'm not one of those "It has to be G1 exactly!" people, but damn, there had to have been a way to update the distortion effect so it fit the movie-verse. Honestly, all I could think of when I heard him was Dr. Claw.

I thought his voice was awesome. They did a great job with it. Can't wait for him to get involved in the thick of the action in the third one.
