Never mind that Soundwave's not been a tape deck since the original G1 toy - even the Music Label version updated him to an MP3 player, albeit a boxy one looking like the original. These days, Soundwave's got a healthy mix of trucks, SUVs and spy planes to choose from for his alternate modes.

You should only ":( " if you're an unsuspecting communications satellite and he's sneaking up on you.

They still made Walkmans? You really do learn something new everyday.

I still have one from the late 80s. If I keep it in the closet next to all of my Armada toys for 30 years I can retire on them, right?

Hmm since Blaster uses the same size cassettes, then is he a micro cassette recorder too ? I don't recall him being labeled as one (Pre-TF) ?

Now I'm tempted to send a Walkman to get AFA'd. Just to see what would happen.

Presumably though there might be other smaller companies still making portable cassette players, even if they're not called Walkmans. And just because they're not being made anymore doesn't mean they've ceased to exist. They'll still be hanging about somewhere, ready to confuse kids that grew up on digital and had never seen a tape before then.
Once all the tape players in the world have gone, then it'll will be truly time to mourn the loss of Old Soundwave. And New Soundwave if you've heard the English dub of Headmasters. :p

As for Blaster, even though his toy uses the same size cassettes as Soundwave he's always been portrayed as a full-size tape deck in media. Soundwave has probably just confused the people drawing him most of the time since his size is all over the place (damn you mass-shifting :p  ) and it makes more sense to show him as a full-size tape player when the cassettes in the TF media are almost always shown as normal-sized standard cassettes.
