Not finished yet. Just wanted to post a WIP and get a little feedback.

Photoshop image based on a quick sketch I did. Still have some work to do. Tighten it all up and such.

Thanks for taking a look and for any comments you might have.

    EDIT:
    Here's the updated version:

Added a lot more detail and reworked some of the earlier shapes and colors.

Looking good. Sadly too good for the actual movie designs.

I always say this about you, but I wish YOU were the designer for this movie. If Soundwave looked EXACTLY like that, I'd be one happy camper.

May I ask how you make these?????? Do you start from scratch? Do you cut and paste actual movie photos? How is it done? I'm really impressed by your work, and if it's done from scratch (as I'm guessing it is) then that's even MORE impressive.

I started with a quick sketch. There were certain elements and shapes from G1 Soundwave and Cybertron Soundwave that I wanted to try and preserve as I went along. I then did a search for photo reference. For this pic I used images of Motorcycles concept cars and audio equipment. Then it's just a matter of finding the right shapes in the reference and creating the pieces of the face. Lots of photoshop cut and paste, but there's a lot more than that going on, too.

I haven't done it to this image yet, but I also do a pretty tight pencil drawing and sometimes a little marker rendering to tighten the final image.

I'm having fun with this one. Soundwave's a favorite of mine.

I've done a few more tweaks to the image. I hope to post an update tomorrow.

i like the curvy head vents, however i think it would be mcuh better if t was based moe on the cartoon depiction than the toy

    Cool, good render.

My only suggestion would be less bending, segments instead.

    Keep on rocking Timshinn! :)

Tried to start up a Transformers Movie design challenge over at penciljack, for coming up with different Transformer designs (was hoping some pro-comic artists and others would pick it up, so far not much luck, the people that posted loved the idea, but thought it was out of their league).

    Here's the updated version:

Added a lot more detail and reworked some of the earlier shapes. I also made the visor a tad thinner and changed the angles a little in order to make him more sinister. The visor color has also been changed to something a little more yellow/gold, like the original toy. I think it's a bit better than the garrish red. The eyes are also much clearer in this version. Again, I don't plan on doing any visorless and nonface plate versions, so I hope seeing the eyes through the visor is enough. Soundwave is a "I wear my unglasses at night" kind of character.

I may give this one more round of minor tweaks, but this it pretty much, I think.

Thanks for taking a look and for any thoughts you might like to share.

I don't see why he would NOT wear a visor. Don't see the need. (Movie Jazz without vizor looks bad anyway, plus it's not Jazz, likewise Prime without faceplate, same story, just 'adds' stuff that's unnecessary, not to mention unwanted). >.>
