soundwave was the perfect G1 decepticon. skilled, loyal, ruthless, and competent. he seemed like a classic #2 though. never seemed like a potential leader. though he did have the loyal following of his cassette tapes. i dont think anyone would have followed G1 Starscream for long anyways. He was to incompetent and crazy.
Yes, you would think that Soundwave would have lead the Decepticons when Megatron died, but he didn't, it was Ratbat who took charge.
Didn't soundwave start kissing starscreams butt at one point in the toon when it was thought Megs was dead? Soundwave reminds me of the scrawny kid who's friend is the bully and as long as he is by his bully friend he appears just as evil but by himself he's lost.
Yeah, he was dead for all of, like, half an episode. The "final" battle with Blaster was kinda cool but they brought them back right away with a new color scheme and new names (Soundblaster and Twincast).
Actually Soundwave eventually became Decepticon leader in the UK comics and it was in the "future" i.e. events after the movie. After Galvatron went back in time and Shockwave was killed.
He also commanded for a short time far earlier in the run (wasn't it one of his command plans that lured Optimus into a trap by grabbing Bumblebee and having Laserbeak drop the yellow bot's arm off at the Ark?) and later split command with Starscream (in a strip titled 'Divide and Conquer' I think). Marvel comic Soundwave also had his fair share of being devious. Memory is hazy on the exact details but I think when he was commanded to read the other Decepticons' minds to find a traitor passing info to another Decepticon army (commanded by Scorponok?) Soundwave had a problem because it was himself doing the info smuggling. Obviously he couldn't hand himself in to Megatron so he just stitched up someone else (one of the Stunticons if memory serves) and Megatron tore the poor blamed bugger a new aft shaft. Marvel comic Soundwave was considerably more interesting and capable than the cartoon version. The only cool thing the cartoon one really did for me was that vocoder voice.
yeah but why even bring megs if that was gonna be the outcome? Again, as I said, Soundwave is an opportunist, he did promote himself to lead
ha ha ha, this reminds me of an Andy Parsons (I think) joke, he said America was a big bully and when it threatened other countries, britain stood behind america, shaking it's fist saying yeaahhhhhhhh. lol
That's exactly what I thought of. Andy Parsons is a comedien and contestent on a show called Mock The Week in the UK, for all the US users who wouldn't have a clue who he is.
The answer differs depending on wether we're talking comics or toon and in the toon what season. Comics the next up was Shockwave. Cartoon, season 1 and 2 was Starscream, season 3 Cyclonus.
And I assume in the cartoons Season 1 and 2 the next in line to become the Autobots leader would be between Jazz, Prowl and Ironhide unless i am wrong and in season 3 it's Springer or Ultra Magnus?
Sounds about right, except for Ironhide. While he took command when necessary, I dont think he or any one would have considered him as a permanent leader.
Lets see.. Skywarp- Could have ended the war in the pilot and chose not to/Starscream tried but was stopped by Megs. Soundwave- Never showed that he could lead and always followed who was the logical choice Shockwave- Couldn't hit the broadside of a barn and got beat by humans Starscream- Tried to step on the Autobots throats many times and was always told to stop. Even both Trplechangers did a better job than Most of them as leaders On the Autobots side Prowl would have taken over if Prime fell. Jazz seemed more like a trainer/mentor than a leader. Ironhide and Ratchet were more of the number 2s
