So I saw and then played this:

Yeah. Go download the three act demo. Now. It's slightly resource intensive, so be wary of that.

Sonic Retro Sonic Fan Remix Available For Download

Notes: It's a demo unfinished project. There will be some minor bugs, but generally they have everything down and solid in the gameplay. Sonic controls like his classic self, and it's pretty as all hell.

Also, it only works on Windows computers. It also requires you to press the num pad enter key to start if you do not change the controls before launching into the game. Playing the game full screen helps FPS as well.

    PS: LOL Sonic 4.

Sums it up nicely. Sonic 4 looks ridiculous in comparison. SMH.

From screenshots alone that looks fucking insane. Can't wait to try this at home.

Can't wait to give this a try, that early video alone suggests they've captured the classic Sonic look & feel perfectly.

Downloaded it and played, but it's choppy as hell, and I have a newer computer. Even turning off all the other programs on my computer and using the lowest resolution at "fastest", there is still a noticeable lag between inputting a command and Sonic doing the command on screen. Looks pretty though.

That's your computer. Ran smooth as a hot knife through liquid butter at max settings here.

Is it a RAM thing? I have 3GB RAM...Disclaimer: I don't really normally play high end computer games, use my PS3 mainly.

No idea, sorry, I'm a PC know not myself. I have 3GB RAM myself, windows 7... however I'm reading lots of performance quirks over the net, so it might be that the Unity Engine is suspect or a graphics card thing?

I've been trying to download it for 12 hours now. :(
Anyone got a mirror link or can fileshare the .rar or something?

    EDIT:
I finally got the 'Save As' dialog window and DL'd it.

I can't install it until I get home though.

I think the game is CPU intensive. When I play it my Laptop doesn't overheat and it's running max settings...meaning that the graphics card isn't crapping itself. Not entirely sure if it's the case, but it's the only thing I have to go on.

Also: It's been reported that the mirrors aren't working/have viruses or something. I'm going to try to rehost it.

Played this and thought it was amazing especially for a fan made game.
That said i prefer Sonic 4, the addition of the homing attack has so many more possibilities, i find it hard to go back to A sonic without a homing attack.

Finally played it. This is what I wanted for Sonic 4.

Ran good on the medium settings on my 6 year old desktop (running Xp, 2gigs of ram and an AGP card), it would randomly pause for a few seconds about twice per level but the rest was silky smooth.

While I don't think its too busy I did have a hard time seeing enemies that were on the ground.

This is based off that one Blitz Hedgehog engine right? If so, I've got a ton of character models for that, and fun will ensue.
EDIT: Nevermind, it's a completely different engine.

Wow...WOW. The screenshots were beautiful, but the game in motion is soooo much nicer. Very impressive remake from a super small crew. This is how you revive classic Sonic. Now, as much as I love the classic levels, let's see some new original levels with this engine. Ran just fine on my machine at "Beautiful".

I don't know if the problem is that the enemies blend in too much, or that the camera is too close in for you to see them coming while running at full speed. I had to play most of the demo curled up just because I'd get blindsided by enemies.

The arts great. Sega, either hire these artists or contract them. Still, new levels with classic Sonic gameplay is what I want. Sonic 4's visuals, while not as good as this, were not its problem. It was the new physics system.

They said the camera thing is an issue with the Unity engine. Apparently it's kind of tough to mess with. What I think they should do is have the camera back up as you go faster.
