    Bumblebee.
In most every media, his character doesn't bother me. Sometimes I like him. Sometimes he's badass. Sometimes he can be ungodly annoying.
But no matter what, kids love him. They adore Bumblebee.

And that is why 85% of the population already had one or more Bumblebee in their toy bins.

So, tell me, why does Hasbro still insist on packing him as the primary figure in all case assortments? Why then, is there a crap ton of repaints?
I know that when I was a kid, my parents only let me have one of each character. Growing up I had one Batman... I had one Superman... one Optimus, one Bumblebee... And yeah, there's the age old argument "but this one is better, mommy!" but it still doesn't change the fact that, ultimately, Bumblebee is a shelfwarmer.

I know kids love Bumblebee, but he doesn't really sell that often anymore.

It's annoying really, when people use the excuse "Bumblebee sells", because he really doesn't. You want me to go count how many Leader Bee's their are? Want me to count how many HA Bee's there are? What about all those legion Bee's? Or maybe the absolute tsunami of deluxe Bee's?

Hell, the same goes for Optimus, to a lesser extent.

Oi... I don't ever expect it to change, it will always happen this way. But it doesn't change that it's annoying.

    Rant over.

    Another thread on Bumblebee? Seriously?

The guy doesn't bother me. I don't want 'em, I don't pay 'em no mind. That's how I assumed everyone operated.

I just hate how in most cases they pack 200 of these and 2 of every other figs.

He's the upstart posterboy for the franchise, so he's gonna be recognisible by name & design. As such, he needs to always be available, and that's likely why everyone in the supply chain needs to invest a lot of their buffer into him. A lot of us think this is a flawed mentality because we're self sustaining repeat customers (aka, not the target market), but it builds the brand, and I guess its working to some extent.

Optimus Prime fits this bill too, but maybe he's over the hill, and I don't know. Here's to this topic not turning into a battle of testicles & steel toed boots.

Just a few HOURS ago I went to Target and they had nothing for Cyberverse Prime except for FOUR BEES.

Not to mention the hundreds of Nitro Bumblebees and normal Bees.

And, just to point this out... DOTM didn't really have many Bees this time around.
Normal Bee, Nitro Bumblebee (which was a whole new mold), Cyberfire Bumblebee, a few Legion Bees, and a leader.

That's not as much as ROTF had, let alone '07.

Well, Cyberfire Bee lasted like two days in my TRU & hasn't been seen since. There were also a couple at Zellers, and had someone in my area not told me about it, I'd have missed that one for sure and have continued getting lost in a sea of regular ones. :(

Bumblebees DO sell. Maybe not Leaders or HA so much, but that's at least partly because those are aimed at and priced out of little kids' reach. Those Deluxes freaking move. I can see this at all my local TRUs and Targets by the simple fact that BBs are overpacked in every wave. And yet those local stores cycle through toys like crazy. There are a couple shelf warmers, but NONE of them are Bumblebee. At least not around here. I've seen the shelves fully stocked, I've seen the same shelves picked bare, I've seen the shelves fully stocked again, repeat, repeat, repeat.

The shelf-warmers around me are Generations Kup and Wheeljack (both of whom are excellent toys), some of the jobber movie Deluxes, and some of the Scan Series movie Deluxes. But Bumblebee Deluxes always seem to be gone again a few days after they've been put up.

The thing that is easy to forget is that there are new kids being born every single day.

YOU may have seen fifty bajillion Bumblebees over the past 7 years, but there are new kids discovering the franchise for the first time each and every year. Every week. Within the past 24 hours, there is at least one little kid somewhere in the US who never heard of the Transformers up through yesterday, now has, and he doesn't have a Bumblebee toy.

There are more kids turning action figure age every year that don't have a Bumblebee. So yeah.

Never confuse "stocked shelves" with "shelfwarming."
And anecdotal evidence isn't real evidence (my brother and I must've had at least a dozen Batmans throughout our childhoods).
Plus, if releasing dozens of barely-different molds and repaints of Bumblebee didn't sell well Hasbro and the retailers just wouldn't do it.

You're forgetting that Hasbro lost the rights to the name Bumblebee for over a decade until it was recovered for the '07 movie, which allowed Classics Bumblebee to be the first new Bumblebee toy made since the Action Master (there was a G2 redeco, and the Go-Bot redeco).

Hasbro's making up for lost time, and they're going to milk the shit out of it. And it sells.

Yeah, that's easily one of the figures I tossed & turned about the most until I found it. I was even lucky to pick the one with the best paint out of 2 or 3 copies that were on the pegs, find it along with Specialist Ratchet that I wanted for an equally longtime, AND get em both at half price due to a Zellers pricing fuckup.

Then on same same day, I also found voyager Banzaitron for 17 bucks & leader Starscream for 30. That was like my bestest day ever hah.

I was at a store yesterday where I spotted a mother and her young son, who had just gotten himself a deluxe DotM Bee, a Leader Bee, a large Kre-O Bee and was wearing a Bumblebee t-shirt. So yeah, he may or may not be indicative of the general populace, there's at least one child in the world who is quite happy to be trippin Bees.

Dunno about that. I keep seeing him at Targets around the county. Walmarts, too.

I can understand what the OP is saying. DOTM Bumblebee can be found in all variations at the Targets, Walmarts, and TRU's around me. It is a sea of Bees. I don't collect the movieverse figures as I do the classics, so this doesn't bother me.

DOTM was a line littered with repaints. There were only a few molds and they have repainted them all for 8 months. My whole view of DOTM is a wish to see new stuff on the shelves.

I never liked G1 Bumblebee but I thought Movie Bee was great in the films. My problem is that they produced him in every size class EXCEPT SCOUT which is the size I wanted him in.

I don't like the modern trend of multiple versions of a character since it deprives us of other new characters.

    Modern trend?

    Two words: Egyptian Batman.

    Or Arctic Batman.

    Seriously, this is NOTHING new.

I remember back in 2007-08 that I was searching so hard for Camaro Concept Bumblebee. Imagine my surprise when I found the Premium version at a store in the mall(right now, the oldest intact toy from my original Movie collection.) He became one of my favorites and was so special to me(IMO, the best Bumblebee ever when he has HFTD Bee's head.)

Now, he's everywhere, and it kind of tarnishes the specialness and value of the Autobot that was initially so hard to find. I don't exactly have a problem with a swarm of Bee's clogging up the shelves...it's just that Hasbro's other recent offerings aren't as appealing to me, which limits my choices.
