Something I stumbled upon and thought I'd share: A real life building that looks like a Titan

And in case the link doesn't work or gets ganked, Google Oslo City Hall.

Okay I've been on an internet rabbit hole re. Brutalist Architecture, Soviet Modernism, and other fun stuff (nerd!) when I stumbled across this building.

Actually my first thought was how the center building resembles the chest of Might Orbots (showing my age here) and a typical vertical separation of a chest (when you're drawing abstract Transformers) my second thought was wow this would make a cool Metroplex/Titan.

I've tried time and time again to squint, and imagine Metroplex as a city and I just can't. He's just a very large building. But a Transformer at this scale? (60' at the torso if I'm counting windows right) would sufficiently dwarf your average 15'-40' Transformer, and could reasonably "house" a contingent of Autobots.

BTW there are pics out there that show the building from the back (eh, not as dramatic) and there's more than enough mass to account for legs, arms, anything else you'd want to work into a transformation scheme.

Anyone up for a battle station mode?

Definitely gives off that "might transform into something" vibe.

Center building is definitely the chest.
Towers are the arms and shoulders.
The fountain swings down to become the crotch piece and the two verandas under each side building form hip scabbards.

I don't know if the driveway is the thighs or if I draw mass from the rear of the building.

I'll work on a sketch later.

IMG_0423.JPG Sorry, I just got real lazy at the end.

Also didn't have an eraser, so any mistakes I just went with.

(Soooo many windows on the arms!)

Honestly it just reminds me slightly of the WTC (rip) but smaller).

Crazy! Imagine all the bricks crumbling and falling down as it transformed. Now this reminds me of a scene in a movie where the character is pitching a new idea to his bosses and it's a transforming skyscraper that looks more like an earth building than anything else we've seen in Transformers. Sorry I wish I could remember what movie this was, it was a popular comedy in the 90s I'm pretty sure.

I googled "tom hanks fortune telling machine movie" and this is the first thing that came up: "Big" (1988)

That one scene always stood out to me because I could never figure out where that toy was from

Oh man that's embarrassing I really should have remembered that, thanks for clearing that up for me. After seeing that pretty young I was always worried Transformers would go fully dedicated into plants and buildings having exhausted vehicles and animals after Beast Wars haha.

Not really, the bricks would be part of the building/transformer. What you would see, as the Titian rose, would be the dirt, dust, flying pigeons and possibly the vegetation.

(Heck, I'd love to see that! But animation is beyond my skill set. Anyone wanna take a stab? Go for it)

If you look at Downtown Wichita from US-54, it's laid out very similarly to Metroplex.

Of course it's a government building... The worst part is the people that work on the toy floor of the right town have to file daily reports to the people that work on the top floor of the left tower, and the left tower closes a half hour earlier than the right tower, and both towers have really old elevators that smell like feet and are always hot. Then to top it all off there is no hall way that connects all three buildings so you have to go outside.

With those towers I can definitely see the city bot connection.

I think somebody just scratched it specifically for that scene. Tom Hanks's character had that thing dead to rights. No kid wants to play with a building that just sits there doing nothing. It wasn't a play set, it was just a brick.

I seem to remember a magazine interview where Hanks actually said he requested that scene/toy be there as a tribute to Transformers because he really likes them, but I can't remember what magazine it was.
