so I got this neat little guy from my buddy optimus scourge. the one of the first things I said was "well he's gonna get some paint added to him." this has been done for a while, and I just finally got in the mood to do some pictures. I always feel it's a shame when treads/tires don't get painted, so that was a no brainer. I didn't realize for a while that the smokestacks were horizontal, not vertical, so all of that got painted to differentiate it from the rest of the vehicle. the knees got some yellow to break up the monotony of the blue legs. and finally, when I thought I was done, I realized that the silver detail of the axe was only done on one side, so of course I had to replicate on the other side. as always, the paints were hand brushed using tamiya and testors acrylics. I'd love to hear what ya'll think!
the truck form looks completely different with the silver there. actually further's his homage as it replicates his old silver stripe.
Nice job, Craig! He looks great like that! Sometimes simple touch ups, extra paint apps like this can really make a ho-hum figure (appearance-wise) into something really cool. Glad you like him
Definitely an improvement on the original. I like everything you've done here. The yellow on his knees pop out nicely
Fantastic stuff. You're right, the yellow really does make a difference, but what really does it for me are the silver stacks and painted cat tracks. Top notch.
dude, I didn't even think of that! awesome! thanks for the nice comments guys, I almost didn't think it was worth putting up here because it was only 3 areas that I did (or 4 if you include the axe).
Something just occurred to me regarding the axe (having just picked the fig up yesterday). I think I've realised why it's only painted on one side. Although it's touted as a double-bladed axe, I think without the shield attachment, it's actually better configured as the traditional single-bladed axe. Keep the blades together (as you have it for storing in truck mode) and flip out the 'trailer hitch' peg, and you've basically got a variation on the normal 'toon axe, with the 'hitch' functioning as the thruster, and paint apps on both sides of the blade.
