Nice! I like this take on Optimus. The head with the visor is a bit of strange idea, and he seems a little stout, but those are my only gripes. I like how you drew from Machine Wars Optimus, a design that doesn't get much attention.

 

Thanks, and yeah, I made him stout so he'd be less like, say, Movie or Animated Optimus in proportions, since his character is so much different. And for those curious, the "battle mask" is a seperate piece that attackes to his face. I imagined it as something he'd use not in battle, but for handling hazardous materials.

Also here's some more. No fancy drawings (Although I am working on Megatron's) yet, but these were the initial characters I started with. These aren't meant as art, just guidelines for the art.


Megatron is obviously movie inspired, but simplified. I also based the Alt mode and colour scheme on MW Megatron.

Ironhide is, again, at first glance Movie-like, but I made him even more stumpy. I actually based him mostly off G2 Ironhide, and whoever said Optimus looked a bit like Spychanger 'Hide, that was unintentional, Ironhide's feet here were not.

Strika is based on, well, obviously the only other Strika ever. However I made her way brawnier, like bigger than even Megatron. The kind you take home to momma.

Road Rage is more predictable in design elements, but I intentionally steered away from traditional fembot elements and made her more pumped. This is not an agile ninja or eye candy for the boys, this chick will bust your face. To fit her name, she uses a sort of stealth force thing. In robot mode, yeah she's mean in a fight, but nice and happy otherwise, in vehicle mode she's a gun-toting madwoman.

Obsidian was fun, because I love him. I made him buffer, but tried to keep the look of frailty, like he's big, but you can see the hollowness of his body, liek if you punched him he migth just crumple. His vehicle mode isn't finished, because vehicles are hard to draw and I hate them.

Megatron looks kinda like G1 Megs combined with movie Megs and Starscream. Interesting...
I too would like to see a Thunderclash repaint of that Prime!

Also here's the Autobot and Decepticon bases. The Autobots operate in a dug out bunker underneath a demolished farm house, the Decepticons in a cave ala Animated, but even more rustic.

Also here's the other two characters I forgot were part of the first wave. Shockwave and Jetfire.

Shockwave is, again, based off past Shockwaves. I kept his proportions fairly standard, making him seem an unlikely combatant, but he's the most powerful Decepticon on Megatron's team.


Jetfire is obviously based off Movie Jetfire, but I threw in cues from every Jetfire I remembered. If his legs seem long it's because I drew him standing straight, but he does the same bird-leg stance as Movie Jetfire. He's also huge. Once all the characters are up with bios I'll post the scale chart. I wish I knew how to draw a Goddamned space shuttle.

I love all of your designs. They remind me of the movie and Prime, and seem like the next logical step in the evolution of such designs. Great work!

Also, the blackbird alt-mode from mini-con Shockwave? Great homage, if that was intended!

 

Yeah, my story is he was originally investigating young Earth (ala G1) but was hit by space debris and knocked into the moon. After detecting the first moon landing he spent decades digging himself out, wherapon he scanned the first vehicle he saw, the space shuttle Endeavour. (even though the shuttle I drew is a lot more generic)

It was. Also what may be less noticable, but his chest is basically mini-con Shockwave's face, like what they did with Prime Starscream. (except I didn't really plan, I just staretd with a stylised Shockwave chest and, well, I saw it)

 

Cool! I like styles like this, where they look like a good hybridization of the various aesthetics. It's more movie than Prime, but a good helping of G1 so characters are recognizable. I like to draw stuff like this too, but sadly, I have no scanner, and cannot show my ideas I draw in pencil.

These are some neat ideas, Split Lip. I like how you incorporated some of the latter Beast Machines characters into the line, and I love the personalities you gave them. I also like the Road Rage and Optimus bios. To me, your Optimus seems like a guy who used to be a jerk, and even after wising up is still paying for it. What I'm wondering is why no one takes him seriously. Is it because of his bad reputation, or is there something else going on?

 

Mostly because he strives to be so noble and so esteemed, yet to everyone else he's just a normal guy who throws things at them when he gets mad.
