So for my first major custom, I'm planning on customizing Classics 2-pack Optimus Prime so he actually has a non-suckish truck mode and a significantly better robot mode. I included some of my plans below (yes they kind of suck, usually I would draw out my plans, but since my printer refuses to scan anything, it's the best I could do to share).

However I would appreciate any thoughts and comments on this.

Update: Here's the list of parts I'm planning on using for this custom.

    -Classics two-pack Prime
-Classics seeker legs (in this case, an extra Thundercracker)
-Generations Red Alert (his hands and any other small bits)
    -Tires from DOTM deluxe Optimus
-A Cast of Kreo Optimus Prime's head (the basic one)
-The diecast matrix from the Battle in Space pack
-A lot of styrene and a lot of luck.

One question for any experienced painters out there, how would you go about painting Prime's upper arms since they're made from POM/PA aka unpaintable plastic?

i spray painted all of primes red parts with krylon 2 in 1 paint and primer in a plain red, if you can get a hold of alcohol prep swabs and heavy rub the insignias off his arm they wont bleed through the paint everything else is easy =)

Well, first off, there's going to be a groove/channel for the panel to go into in bot mode.

    In terms of transformation:
    1) The entire panel folds back at the second hinge, it's attached to the lower panel
    2) Than the entire mechanism will slide up in grooves within the torso, this is part of the larger channel meant to house the panel in bot mode.
    3) At this point, the panels will fold into the groove in the torso.
    4) Next the panel that was formerly covering the head will fold up along the back. This will the only visible panel on his back; like the G1 Cartoon model. The third pic gives a decent idea of what the panels will look like when fully compressed.

I may or may not put in additional panels to give him some shoulder blades to help beef up his back. It all depends if there's any room left.

Since this will be my second project working with quite a bit of styrene and the first time creating new joints/hinges, any tips/advice. (From personal experience, that is)

Hopefully, it'll work out. I'm just unsure how sturdy it'll be at this point.

if you not sure on sturdiness of the styrene parts try experimenting with spare transformer parts or other plastics first that already have hinges and go from there

Well this isn't the first time I'm working with styrene, so I'm somewhat aware of its limitations. The only problem is ensuring the hinges stay together and stay attached to the panels, so I'm going to take another look at the "Working with Styrene" video in the tutorial forum.

But thanks for the thoughts and comments. One question though, how's your Prime going?

That would explain your thread for a good deluxe sized cabover truck model kit. Let me know how that turns out, I may be interested in adding a reshell to my growing to do list for Prime. I honestly didn't think of using truck model kit parts for Prime (didn't think that there were trucks in that small of a scale). As for me, I may possibly name Prime a "mini masterpiece" since if my plans work out, he's going to end up pretty similar to MP-10.

I'm fairly certain that your's is going to be finished first. Mine's not even out of the planning phase yet. That and the fact I'm planning on experimenting with some techniques and other customizing methods before I begin.
