Am I the only one who is extremely disappointed with them giving it to China, considering their human rights record?
First of all, if you think that it's shameful that the IOC gave it to them despite the whole human rights issue, why hasn't every free country boycotted it? Obviously there's more to it. Like setting aside the differences between nations for a friendly competition? Second of all, this isn't the N&R forum so I don't even know why you posted that issue out here in the first place. If there's anything worth making a stink about, make it about the horrible pollution that will affect the athletes.
Sorry if being bothered about it being set there upsets you. It's true no one has boycotted it, but that doesn't mean I have to just be fine and dandy with it. I never thought general human rights violations were controversal. About a year or two ago, we had no "N&P" subforum and I posted an article about China's Death Vans they had going on. There was no debate or argument over it. I'm sorry if I've somehow offended you. I have nothing against China in general, and one of my favorite time periods is the Three Kingdom era of China, but I just don't think it was right to allow them to host it when any country does something as awful as what I've read about. If my posts were so controversal, just delete them.
Human rights is a very touchy, political issue. We will leave it at that and return to the topic at hand.
