I'm considering buying a ssd harddrive for my laptop(acer aspire 5943g with a 500gb harddrive) and I am wondering if it's worth it? I know that they have a better writing and reading speed and that they are very quiet. Is it worth it or should I wait til they get cheaper?

I built a few SSD workstations here at work.
Prior to joining them on the domain, it took 13 seconds to reboot.

That's 13 seconds from hitting start>restart to having a fully functioning desktop.

I was thinking of making a external harddrive of the harddrive I am taking out.

I primarily use them for testing, since deployment time is very fast. Other than that, I don't have a problem using regular drives. Also I wouldn't really consider using one in a notebook unless I was using x64 with a ramdrive. Then again, finding a notebook with enough memory to make that worthwhile would also be a pain.
