Isn't it ironic that the thing meant to bring people closer together in fact drives them further apart?

When we're all just brains in jars controlling the universe via computers all those people that agree with this article will be more than happy to make use of the skills children will have developed by using these sites.

as an education major for children 10-14 i would have to say this is a load of crap. social websites allow children to expand their ideas and network. it's the people who abuse them that give them bad raps!

Social websites "make young people more self-centered"? Is that even possible? Anyway, yeah, this is a pretty shallow article with absolutely no scientific data to back up any of the claims they're making. Granted, the general public seems to have an aversion to scientific fact at the best of times, but it would still help if the "experts" interviewed for this article provided some evidence for what they're saying.

That would be what's known as GIDS or "Gradual Infant Death Syndrome", a ubiquitous congenital disorder. Average life expectancy for sufferers of this disease is a mere 7 - 8 decades, during which time those afflicted slowly accumulate deficiencies in all major organ systems, as well as progressive cognitive and neurological impairment. The illness is fatal in all known cases. Further studies will be required, however, and will begin as soon as the NIH funds my damn research grant.

I think they mean "self-centered" as in people are all like "omfg did whats-her-face comment on my picture lol" and people checking on their profiles many times a day
