And apparently people who really like trains are called "foamers" ?

So I am going to coin a new term. lol. People who really like transformers are known as "transfoamers" LMAO.

Yessir, at least in the US. Every fandom has its jargon and its eccentrics. The hardcore foamers are pretty easy to recognize, they usually wear denim overalls with patches from every event they've been to. :)

I'm on the semi-regular crew that operates a local model railroad. It's a total geekout, with train orders and waybills and radio dispatching and shouted allusions to Unstoppable and Silver Streak. Those last would be my contribution. I act pretty much normal, but the old guys tolerate me, so that's good. :)  It might help that I'm the "Official Company Photographer". :D

It's fun to see the overlap between the fandoms. Pretty much all the temperamental things we have here are represented over there, and vice versa.

    To foible is human. :)

Can someone explain to me why they're called "Foamers"?

Do they have Rabies or something?

Metaphorically. Mad for trains, and possibly some may foam a little when they forget to stop talking trains for a few seconds now and then. But only just a little.

I thought it was funny! And I fully endorse TF Train fans being called Transfoamers. Kinda like I also endorse TF fans that are also trekkies can be called Transtrekkies.

Now don't go dissin' all the train fans.

Like any fandoms, there are a good number of them who need to acquire real lives and real social interaction skills.

I would kill to see one of the Union Pacific heritage units or the ones recently done by Norfolk Southern, some sweet engines there.

Every month when the new issues of Trains comes in the mail I go thru it cover to cover repeatedly with my 2 yr old. I make him sound out all the words of article titles as we go.

Pretty much same shit as here, just different objects of desire.
