It's a good movie overall; the action was good, the writing and writing was good too. So I went onto wikipedia to see how well it was received and I saw that it got good praise but then this sentence stuck out:

"78% approval from 179 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, whose assessment reads: "Sleek, loud, and over the top, Fast Five proudly embraces its brainless action thrills."

And I just thought; 'why couldn't think that way about Transformers?" It wasn't supposed to be an intellectually stimulating movie yet people seemingly went in expecting to not watch an action movie since people seldom acknowledged the action sequences which were the highlights of the series.

I think because Fast Five is "sequence-driven", rather than "character-driven", like Transformers tries to be, it can sidestep some of the problems the Bay films have had. Unfortunately, this also means that Fast Five has something more of a streamlined and cohesive story than the last two TF films.

But I think the main reason Fast Five gets a pass and TF gets criticism is because the Bay films identify as "Transformers Films" instead of "Mindless Action Films", and as a result many fans hold them to a higher standard. I think I've most enjoyed ROTF and DOTM when I've managed to just turn off my brain and watch the 'sploshuns, but it's when I start picking the film apart consciously that I start having problems. Which, unfortunately, is most of the time for me.

Critics are morons, that's why. I don't need other people's approval to enjoy a movie. The physics in Fast Five killed the whole movie for me, all I could think about is how not possible it was to drag a safe around like that.

One is based on a comic, the other one pretty much started it's own subculture within automotive world.

    Differences :)

Michael Bay. Had dotm been directed by someone else, but still have the exact movie ( no differences), it would'vehad higher ratings.

Fast Five aims to be a fun action movie while the Transformers movies aim to be a little more than that. I love both franchises to death, but I gotta say that I liked Fast Five more than DOTM. Fast Five accomplished its main goal of showing all the action and developing the characters so well. I thought DOTM was also great, but I enjoyed Fast Five more. Fast Five has become my second favorite movie of all time just behind the 2007 Transformers movie.

    Quite possible, yeah.

"It's a mindless summer blockbuster with amazing visual effects, great action scenes, and grand atmosphere, where the viewer can happily turn their brain off for a good while,...but why did Bay have to be the director? For that, three stars down to one."

^ That's probably the mindset of at least a few critics of the Transformers films.

That's a false assumption because you have no way of knowing that for sure.

That's one reason I'd wish he'd make a movie under a pseudonym sometime.

True. But there is plenty of evidence to support the fact.

I'm asking you to, since you're the one who cited it as justification. I want to see what YOU consider sufficient evidence.
