    Besides the obvious of course.

I hate the phone. Literally HATE it. Friends call me, I talk for a minute or two, but I just hate being on the phone. They'll call, leave a message, and most of the time, I either forget, or just can't be assed to pick up the phone and call back.

I don't know what it is. I can text message, I can IM, and I'm fine hanging out and talking to people in person. But there's just something about the phone that I can't stand.

So wtf is wrong with me? lol

I get the same thing man. In my mind (which is by no means an accurate yard stick) TXTing or IMing takes little focus, and you can multitask easily. Having a face to face conversation is a full experience, total focus. Talking on the phone is a halfway thing. Can't focus totally on something else without letting the phone go.

I don't like the phone either. For me, its usually because I want to do other things than sit around with a phone by ear listening to somebody yammer away. If I want to watch TV, I have to keep the volume down or I can't hear them. If I want to do something, my concentration is divided in order to pay attention. Actually, I think aksmth summed up the problem I have with it pretty well.

I hate the phone too, but I also hate text messages even more. My preferred methods of communication are IM or in person.

I'm not a phone person at all either. it's so much easier to flow a conversation in real life but it sounds so forced on the phone. And IMs are easy, you get bored and you stop talking. I rarely talk via phone and answer even less

It doesn't help matters that about 90% of the calls I get outside of work are telemarketers ... what the hell was I thinking having a listed number?

I'll never leave voicemails, and I never check mine. If someone calls me, I figure why bother checking the voicemail when I can just call them back and find out quicker?

I prefer texting, usually. I'll text all day and night, and rarely actually "talk" on my phone. Ever since I became single, my minute usage has dropped dramatically. But I'll still rack up a few thousand texts in a month.

I feel you. I HATE the phone with a passion. I think it's because I am a more people person, and I can talk to people better in person. On the phone, I freeze up. I don't know how chicks do it.

There's only about two people I can stand to talk on the phone with for longer than 5 minutes. And if it's someone I'm going to talk to in person within the next week, I'm normally more anxious to get off the phone. My wife'll call me at work, and I love her dearly, but I can wait til I'm off to hear about the minutiae of her day. But there's a couple buddies I left behind when I moved that I talk to about once a month or so, and we can go about 45 minutes or so. My wife, OTOH, can talk to a person she just saw yesterday for three hours or more. Strange. Of course, she spends about 2 hours a week on the web, and I'm here at least an hour a day.

I'm with ya on the NO PHONE thing. Its to the point where my wife has started fights over it.

I can be chillin with the cordless phone in my lap, the damn thing rings and I'll just look at it. I make her answer the phone since she feels compelled to talk on it all the time. Boy that pisses her off. I tell her, if they want to talk to me so bad they'll leave a voicemail. I will check voicemail, I'm good about that. My 2 year old girl now says ugh ooohhh the phone daddy expecting me to jump up and run to get it. She looks upset that I dont share her urgency.

BUT, I know where my adversion to the phone came from. In college I answered tech calls for Hitachi, Toshiba TV's and VCR's. I dont do that anymore but ever since working that job, the phone can go to hell....

Actually, I now find myself answering the phone a little more often (I'm such a big boy) and I answer it in speakerphone mode and not saying anything. My friends know whats up so they will say something first. If a person calls that doesnt know me, they will just hang up thinking something is wrong with the phone.......<----NOW there is probably something wrong with that, but I dont care.

I'm the complete opposite. I feel that when I get on the phone (mainly with friends or family) I'm a chatterbox. I can call somebody to just talk for a few minutes about something and wind up talking an hour or more. Used to not be that way, though.

Same here. I thought going on the "do not call" list would help, but I still get several calls a day asking me to donate to some cause or somesuch, because those are exempt from the do not call list. I just keep my ringer turned off, and use my phone to order pizza.

There's nothing wrong with you at all.

I spend a good portion of my day on the phone, much to my chagrin, and during my non-work time, I'll use any method of communication possible, IM, PM, SMS, carrier pigeon, smoke signals, astral projection, etc. just so I don't have to make any damn phonecalls.
