Just got it this morning and haven't had time to play much... Will definitely play some more after work.

Due to the lack of a second ananolg stick on the PSP, the controls take a while to get used to. However, the controls are customizable and it's easy to find a setup that suits your style of play.

Cutscenes are very similar to the Digital Novel designs, and the IDW comic book, but with voice acting!!

So far I've been through the very first mission. Longtime MGS fans will feel right at home with the mechanics of the game, how the enemy soldiers react, etc.

I can't wait to try it online and see how the recruiting system works! Looks like tons of fun!

Xmas season has made me poor. Maybe it'll be under the tree waiting for me.

I might go get it later today. What firmware does it require?

The disc has 2.81 update on it, so I'd venture to say 2.81.

    *me yells: yey devhook!*

I'm surprised it's not 3.01 since that's the latest firmware update from Sony. And for the record, the game is fantastic. I've only played the first few missions, but what I have played is nothing short of amazing. Voice overs on cutscenes with the original VA's, PS2 quality graphics and a story that, so far, makes perfect sense. It's one not to be missed.

Portable Ops was released before 3.01. When the UMDs were printed, 2.81 was the latest firmware.

Anyway, if you have 2.71, you should be downgrading to 1.5 and using Devhook.

Eh. Im not big on the downgrading thing. And specifically not big on the custom firmware thing. I just dont want anything to go wrong and cause a bricking. Right now I can run my homebrew natively, and thats the way I likes it.

Dudes.... Nevermind 1.5... Go with 2.71 SE-C... All the goodness of 1.5, with the commodities of recent firmwares.

Besides, with the latest Devhook (0.51) you can perfectly emulate firmware 3.02

    That's how I'm playing MPO ;)

I cannot wait to play this game! I still don't have a PSP though. Hopefully, I'll get it around X-mas.

I'm doing my best to avoid reading any spoilers in the MGS site I frequent, but it appears not many people have been able to get the games yet.

This game is so rocking my balls! I was on a mission where I had to sabotage 3 trucks with TNT, and my only soldier carrying TNT's cover was blown and he was being shot at and I was huffing it to the last truck and he had such a tiny health bar I thought for sure he'd die before I could plant the TNT and get away so I just decided he had to blow himself up with the truck. Good times. :thumb

Kojima mentioned in an interview that he didn't have any plans on porting it to the PS2.

How does it compare to Snake Eater in terms of detail, enemies on screen AI etc? I ask because I bought Killzone Liberation after hearing much hype only to discover there where only ever two or three enemies at one time and they where thick as dogshit.

Simply put, they used the MGS3 engine. There's a *slightly* lower polygon count, but it's pretty minor if you ask me. The game looks and feels like a true sequel to MGS3.

This may very well be the greatest PSP game yet. I'm having fun recruiting members to my resistance team. Wherever I go, be it school, work, friend's place, whatever - you can scan for wifi hotspots. If you find one in your vicinity, you 'recruit' a new member to add to your troops. I've found 4 so far. You can't use the same wifi hotspot twice, so it gives you incentive to travel around town with your PSP. It's quicker than capturing enemy soldiers, putting them in prison and then convincing them to join.

So far, I'm absolutely loving every aspect of the game!

This guy I know in college bought it and I watched the opening. Great stuff. Can't wait to play it, and the digital comic cut-scenes work better than I expected. And as always, the story owns.
