The family and I are flying up to Oregon next week for vacation. I'll be in the Beaverton area, but not Beaverton itself. Anyone been there\live there and if so, what is a cool thing to do? I'm in Texas and it has been over 100 for several days straight. I've looked on the web and it says Beaverton could be in the high 60s to 70s. But that is not very descriptive -is it cooler in the evenings or mornings? Could it possibly get any colder? Should I pack the kids jackets just in case? Thanks for any info.
lol nevermind.....note to self.....actually READ the post beforehand lol (i edited this cause i didn't read beforehand and had posted to come to texas instead of oregon )
days are hot, and nights are chilly...60s at night, high 80s at day. let see....here's a site that i found: Things to do in Oregon - Oregon attractions : STATEofOREGON.com (time is eastimated from Beaverton) from what they got on the site, places i've been: Multnomah Falls is really nice, 5 mile walk to the top...around that same area, there's other hiking spots. 45 min drive. Oregon Zoo is ok....10-15 min drive. OMSI, dont know what the attraction is right now, but when i did go (it was the Body Works) it was really neat. 30 min drive. Oregon Coast Aquarium is ok....i like the coast itself better. 1+ hour drive. Places that i do want to check out are: Wild Life Safari - you get to ride in your vehicle like what you see in the animal channel and stuff. 4+ hour drive. Crater Lake - heard it was beautiful, nice clear blue waters. 4+ hour drive and if you want, you can check out Mount Saint Helens in Washington. 1.5+ hours
I live in Beaverton, which is about 12 miles west of Portland. I have lived in different parts of Oregon for the past 4 years. OMSI--a science museum the Zoo is cool The Oregon Coast aquarium is 2-3 hours of driving. The northern coast line is 60 minutes and the aquarium is another good 60 minutes from there. Powells--the world's largest independent book store--the largest is in downtown Portland (the only bookstore that I know of that you need a map--this is no joke) and it has a satellite bookstore in Beaverton. Mt. St. Helens is 60 miles to the north in Washington state there are a few collectible stores in Beaverton and downtown Portland. Right now, it is 58 degrees at night and 70s during the day and it has been a tad wet at times. It is cool in the evenings but jackets are unnecessary. If you have never been to Oregon before, be aware that you cannot pump your gas and we have No Sales tax. Crater Lake is beautiful but it is in the southern portion of the state. It take a minimum of 5 hours to get to it.
you could see lake oswego instead, if you wanted to see a lake lol it's not that far from beaverton, i don't think. there is mount hood, and mount hood national park, *we actually have quite a few here don't we, national parks that is? the oregon beaches are always nice, too. rivers are meh though, lol polluted. oh and avoid blue lake
oh right it's "Mount Hood National Forest" lol! i forgot oh and it's oregon, expect it to rain lol! so yea, coats, umbrella's too
It does not rain too hard in the summer...it has rained 2 days all summer long. If it was late fall through May, I would agree on that notion. The only places that you would need a jacket--if you go to the coast or go up in elevation to Mt. St. Helens or Mt. Hood.
lol....oh ok, I stand corrected. In Beaverton, it is was a tad cool in the morning but it warmed up quickly but it was not raining.
Thanks for the information, guys. I am going to visit my aunt and uncle. They are what society calls "elderly" so I am not sure how much they will be able to get out and around. This information is good to know so I can plan on how far to drive and then return to hang out with them for meals, etc. I will seem so much smarter to my family now that I already know that Oregon only has full service gas stations. How far is it to Mt. St. Hilary and will the security sensors go off if you get too close to The Ark? I love Dallas, but did you see those temperatures? 60 degrees. Awesomesauce!
...the volcano. I am not sure where it is exactly. My thoughts are that it is either based off of Mt. Hood or in the Boring Lava Beds (east of Mt. Hood). And I have not found it yet so I do not know about the sensors and security.
There's some friendly Oregon-o's in the Oregon sightings thread that may help out, as well as guiding you to the right places for toy hunts
one thing that's going to suck is if you choose to ride the Max Red Line...currently, the steel bridge is closed so you would have to get off, get shuttled over, and get back on another Red Line. what sucks is that the Red Line is the Airport Max (Beaverton Transit Center - Airport)
If you go to the beach (what there is of it), be warned that the water is COLD. My ex used to dive there a lot, and had to wear a drysuit even in high summer because it was so cold. Wetsuits were for fools who wanted to die of hypothermia. You might get to see whales, tho. --Moony
