In working on Resources, only three molds have ever truly exceeded the maximum number of slots for number of remolds - Generation 1 Optimus Prime, Generation 1 Starscream / Seekers, and Classics Seekers. There's your top three most reused. And seriously, are we splitting hairs over the whole repaint / redeco / recolor terminology again? That was old back in 2004, I mean does it really matter when we all know what we mean when we say X is a repaint of Y, etc.
What about the lightbar then? I think there's a 'Botcon someone' from that mold too, in black or something? There's the clear one too.
Going by that definition, this toy might be our winner: Image:ROTFLegendsBumblebeeRepaints.jpg - Transformers Wiki (Also, I'd like to point out that "mold" isn't the correct term either, as it refers to the toolings, which were probably never repainted nor redecoed. The correct term would be "sculpt". )
True. I didn't think about those. I was kind of focused on headsculpts and such for retoolings. The G2 figure? Didn't it get a new head? That's what I forgot. Crystal Convoy. Duh.
I was thinking the G1 Prime mold was one of those double-digit dudes. I've got only four but when you get into the reissues and Ultra Magnus variants as well, whew!
I know G1 Prime has been used a lot, but are there really that many recolors? I wouldn't count slight color variations ( like 25th reissue ) as a separate release. He's been reissued a lot, but not in that many colors. Even if you do count Ultra Magnus. Or am I wrong?
ROTF Leader Prime is up there too if you count the Takara ones. -Regular Prime -Battle Hooks Prime -Buster Prime (white pin striping) -Buster Prime two pack (blue pin striping) -Amazon black DVD Prime -Family Mart clear Prime.
ok, going from G1 and Beast eras G1 Prime: Orginal, Pepsi, Ultra Magnus, Lucky Draw, 2000 New Years Convoy, Encore, TRU Reissue, Starscream: Orginal Seekers, Black Starscream, Clear Starscream, Ghost Starscream, TRU Reissue Fort Maz: Orginal Fort Max, Grand Max, Brave Max (Car Robots) Beast Era Optimus Primal: Original, Reissue (new head) Burning, Clear Cheetor: Orginal, Running Change, Tigertron, Fox Kids, Reissue Cheetor (TM) Orginal, BW Metals Ravage, Botcon TM Tigertron, Armada Rattrap (TM): Orginal, Wal Mart, Fox, Reissue
For straight repaint/redeco with no remolding, I'd say the G2 Go-Bots/RiD Spychangers are definite contenders.
Aside from Ultra Magnus, those are just variants, not what would be classified as a "repaint". I mean, Pepsi Prime has a sticker ON THE BOX. The toy inside is identical. Encore and TRU are only different cause of tampo symbols or short stacks. Again, not repaints. NY Convoy has blue window and eyes. Hardly makes him a repaint either. The only repaint I know of is the black Japanese exclusive. Heck, even the Diaclone colors were the same. Ultra Magnus due to different trailers is a massively different toy. He's had a few repaints though. Diaclone colors, G1 Magnus, Shining yellow magnus, and I can't think of any others. So even if we group all these together, we have only 5 different color schemes. Hardly the most recolored toy.
The thing most of the molds/scuplts aren't bad to repaint in the first...the blazemaster/whiptail?/evac molds are terrible...I think most of us don't mind a repaint,if the colors and molds works
With the Vintage Pepsi Prime, that's true, the only difference is the sticker on the trailer. But with the Pepsi Convoy release, the Prime figure has more Pepsi-themed stickers and paint aps, and is considered a different character.
Oh yeah, forgot about that one. But that still only has us up to 6, and that's only if you count Magnus as a repaint of Prime. Considering over 60% of the toy is different, that leaves the repaint realm IMO. I'll go as far as to say Prime is the most released toy in history as many different times as he's seen the store shelf. But no where near the most repainted.
The mold used for Classics Inferno has been used a few times hasn't it? And if you include Knock-Offs, G1 Devastator has seen the light of day too many times.
Perfectly said there my man. I hate it when people go all, "well technically....", when they know exactly what people mean. And there is no way you can't tell me Classics Starscream and Henkei Thrust (or should I say Gentei) aren't the same damn mold. It's the same toy with different wings and colors for crying out loud. My vote would have to go with the G1 seeker mold or Classics seeker mold. G1 Prime has also been a repaint bitch. So has the Dinobot mold. Classics Prime might bet there one day.
