That pretty much sums it up...

When I reserved a copy (Special edition for those that care) I was told there were 4 releases for this particular chain.

    Regular
    Special Edition
    Autobot Tin
    Decepticon Tin

So what do we know about these? (I haven't been following, and I have no idea where to start searching)

Hmm, not sure. Only "tin" I've heard of is the metal case with the autobot logo on one side and decepticon logo on the other...

I'm just trying to decide between the tin and the transforming case... :D

There are 7 unique packages around the world. Some, like the Wal-Mart extra disc is exclusive to the USA, whilst others, like the transformable packaging, is out in many countries.

Yeah, I thought they had said that the metal tin and transforming case were confirmed for the US - transforming case was a Target exclusive or something. Am I right, or misinformed, or maybe just crazy?

I was just at a Best Buy here in Canada today they had the pre- order solicited. You purchase a lithograph sealed in an envelope for $5 with is also your deposit on your pre order. You take the receipt to any Best buy on release day to get your figure and DVD's.

The packaging for the lithograph was pretty sweet but I am still partial to the Wal-Mart bonus disc assuming that it is available in Canada.

As far as I know the Wal-Mart one will be available in both the USA and Canada.

I saw the Advertisement for the Transformers DVD about a week ago (last month) and when they showed the images of the DVD packages, it would seem that the HD DVD is getting the plain white background with Optimus (or Megatron) for its cover, while the Standard DVD (single/two-disc) Edition is getting Transformers Poster Variation (according to http://www.impawards.com) No. #8 for its cover! I was pissed to say the least. Its like buying the Standard M:I:III DVD and getting this lame cover as opposed to the much cooler HD DVD cover with the Ethan Hunt's Profile. [Grumbles].

Yeah, that's way too many DVD Variations for one movie.

I wouldn't know which one you should buy. The Wal-Mart Exclusive is most likely the Single-Disc Edition with the Animated Prequel Comic (or whatever it is) all plastic wrapped beside it in a two for one deal. The last time I ever got a Bonus Disc package from Wal-Mart, was when I got Spider-Man and X-Men - The Last Stand on Single Disc DVD Editions and I got totally gypped. The Last Stand Bonus Disc proclaimed to have featurettes in which it showed how the Actors and Actresses ended up with their roles, but I ended up with a one hour featurette on the history of the X-Men comic books and their most successful story arcs. The Spider-Man bonus Disc wasn't even worth looking at, I felt so ripped off and cheated that day. I'm seriously wary about buying any Bonus Disc! Package from Wal-Mart.

    Target's transforming package

Um, I'm pretty sure we are. Thought someone posted that they'd confirmed with a Best Buy employee that it was listed in part of their system somewhere.
