There are some people who are heavy into Star Trek, others Star Wars and Lord of the Rings... Others, like myself, have Ghostbusters. For one day, and one day only, I had the chance to come face to face with a vehicle from my favorite franchise (something those other fans can never do). Myself and two of my friends drove an hour and a half to a car show in Elmont to gawk at the Ecto 1 for two hours... then drive home. We saw no other cars. We spent our time snapping pictures, chatting it up with the guy from Columbia Pictures, three other fans who showed up in gear (we had the same idea, but nixed it thinking we'd get stopped by security... we were angry) and had some pictures taken with the hot models in sexy Ghostbusters costumes. Nice. Some facts about the car: It had been rotting in a backlot for 22 years under a tarp. It took Sony close to $40,000 to restore the old girl. Her sister, the Ecto-1A, is also being restored, but it hasn't had the luxury of a tarp. She may not make it. A sad, sad truth. Anyway, here are a few sample pics and I'll share a link to the rest. Glorious My friend with the three models. The one on the far right wanted NOTHING to do with the car show. The blonde thought she was too tall for the outfit... we felt differently The Long Island Ghostbusters. It always starts with 3 Here's the rest of the album. http://photobucket.com/Ecto1inElmont
Ghostbusters rock. Ive seen like 2 of those kind of cars around my town. Their red and in beat up shape but Im sure they can be restored.
I hear ya, dude. Ghostbusters is still one of my top 10 favorite movies... one of the few that I would pretty much ALWAYS be in the mood to watch. And it has only gotten better with age. Great pics! Love Ecto-1. For a while I had mind to collect matching scale models of famous movie/TV automobiles, and Ecto-1 was right at the top of my want list (along with the DeLorean, KITT, the A-Team Van, the Batmobile, etc.). Never went through with it, though, as all my frivolous-expenditure funds are already directed toward Transformers and Lego. Heck, I don't know if they ever even MADE a scale model Ecto-1.
geek, nerd, dork, dweeb...wear those names with pride when ya got to touch the Ecto (and were slime free) and mingle with babes and three wiseguys from LI that may know somebody. rock on in your geekgasm and i envy you.
That's sweet Zeta! Thanks for sharing the pics. It's nice to see a big company spending the money to restore a movie prop like that - rather than letting it rot.
zomg, you lucky bastard! grats on seeing that old girl in person. oh and sharing us the picks of the models too
Always been a huge fan of the ghostbusters. My father in law almost bought an old cadillac hearse that ecto-1 is based on. Would have been awesome to convert to an Ecto.
Awesome pics. I love ghostbusters. I think my friends and I quote it more than just about anything. You be proud of your obsession.. I once spent 14 hours in a movie theater watching star trek 1-7 in order. so i understand.
That was on Long Island? This guy http://iconsf.org/archive/icon27/media_erniehudson.php from the Ghostbusters movie was signing autographs at I-CON on Long Island this year. I was going to get his autograph too, but I would want all the ghostbusters to sign the photo not just one. :/
