Lately I've found myself drawn to the NERF isle at TRU. Since it's on the way between the TFs and checkout I always give it a glance. As of recent I've found myself tempted to pick one up, even though I realize I've no use for a NERF gun. I will say that the ones out now make me jealous. Far better than what was available when i was a kid. Sniper Rifles, Missile wracks, Gattling guns. Crazy stuff. Glad to see they still make the old arrows too though.

But the question is. Are there any NERF fans on the board? Anyone care to warn me away from yet another addicting hobby before it's too late?

Lol, when I was at a previous work we used to go NERF crazy in the office. In the end it was more fun throwing the big NERF missiles than shooting them.

It was a passing fancy for me TBH. But I do 'occasionally' buy a NERF gun, but I customise then usually. Like this one...

I have a Maverick and I love it. The cat fears the sound of me cocking it. She knows what's coming next.

I still have yet to paint it / mod it.

I have that gun but in a different color. I'd like to paint it but don't know what type of paint to use. What do you use tikgnat?

Yes, I have more than my fair share of Nerf guns: Maverick, shotgun-modded Longshot, Firefly, and a Vulcan.

I own a Maverick... I had to. It's a nerf revolver for $8! When I got it, I was highly disappointed that you couldn't swing the barrel out all the way, though.

A dremel took care of that problem.

I have at least one of every gun in the N-strike line, multiples of the smaller pistol like guns. I terrorize the cats and have two young nephews who like to play wth them.

The Recon CS-6 is probably my favorite. The Longshot was great but my darts have warped slightly since I left them in the clip for far to long. I had gotten pretty good at hitting my nephews while they were running at a good distance. The Vulcan is just a bad ass beast.

I've liked Nerf gun but no real reason to collect em. The only exception is the Vulcan, which I MUST buy at some point. It's just to awesome NOT to get, especially once you hook some belts together.

I have a Recon, Longshot, and a Maveric, and if I could ever convince my wife to let me, I'll have a vulcan.

I took the whole thing apart and sprayed it with different colours of metallic paint, the sort of thing you see in any DIY/Hardware store.

I also modded it so the barrel swings out further, not all the way but a lot further than it used to.

Ever since the Longshot came out I keep having to tell myself I shouldn't buy it since don't have anybody to have Nerf fights with.

I still need to finish the Longshot. Another shameless post of it.
It had some weak power though. Replace the launch spring with a toliet paper roll holder spring. Powers it up so much the darts it came with tear apart in the air when you shoot it

    ^ Looks good CM!

I'm actually painting a maverick this week, they're fun. I've been really tempted to paint a few different nerf guns (especially that new fully-auto monster), but it's a way more spendy hobby than TF's, especially since I'd just put the damn thing on a shelf and never shoot it ever again :p  But they're cool and fun for sure,

Here's a pic of the last Nerf I did, went for a Hellboy vibe.

Basically ditto to what you said, except fo the cats thing. I too have them all, plus some of the smaller pistols. I also enjoy shooting my niece and nephew, which is great fun. Personally though, my favorite gun from the line is the Longshot with its clips and far greater accuracy. Also, I was able to get an extra laser sight when I bought it, so that is a big bonus.

The Maverick is possibly the greatest stock Nerf you can possibly buy. Even against the Longshot, it has unprecedented accuracy and range. I broke my Longshot trying to mod it though. Maybe I should get another one and try it sometime. I want to do a bigger spring and also remove the airflow limiters somehow. I think that's where I went wrong before. There's no good tutorial for removing them.
