This just isn't my day. This morning I went to the foot doctor to get the results from the MRI I had done on my left ankle two weeks ago. I've been having pains in that part of my body ever since I started working as a cart attendant at Home Depot back in late April. Granted, anyone who's pushed carts are gonna have pain in their feet, but not if there's a tear in their tendon like I have. The tear's pretty serious, so it's going to require surgery. It's not until late July, but unfortunately, it means that I have to cancel my classes for this summer. The worst part is that after the surgery, I'm going to be in crutches for three weeks, then a cast for three weeks, then finally a boot for three weeks. What's even worse is that I may have to resign from Home Depot. I've barely worked there for two months, and already I might lose my job. This just fucking sucks.

Sorry if I'm ranting, I just had to get this off my chest.

am sorry to hear that. i was never a cart attendant at Walmart, but i have had to pull extremely heavy pallets from trucks, and move em outta freezers to the floor to stock.
i used to collect the labels from the pallets that reached 3 tons.

the pain i got from doing that was in my arms and shoulders, and at one point, i thought i had a dislocation.

you got my sympathies and wishes for a quick recovery.

look at it this way, though: if you can keep your job, you will miss the hottest time of year out there and that's ALWAYS a blessing.

That sucks dude, I had to have surgery on both of my feet at the same time and had my tendons lengthened. Sucks missing an entire summer and being stuck inside in casts. Im not sure how it works in the US, can your employer put you on a short term medical leave so you don't lose you job?

That's lame. I really hope it works out for you. Perhaps they can give you a job where you don't have to be on your feet all the time??

To answer the main question "Do I get a medical leave?" Unfortunately, no. :(  I had to resign today, but since the boss was nice, she said that I'm willing to come back as soon as the foot gets all healed. So it's a temporary resignation.

And thanks to everyone for the luck. I'll need it for next month.

Good luck dude, hope you make a speedy recovery! At least they're keeping your job open for you so that's one less thing to worry about. Stay optimistic!

Feel bad for you man, the worse that happened to me from pushing carts at Walmart was a huge ass blister. How did you tear your tendon anyway? Did you twist your ankle, or overextend your leg and it tore, or what?

Surgery's a week from today. I've got to make the one week I have left last before I spend the next nine weeks in a dressing, then cast, then boot. Any ideas?

(Sorry if I'm digging this thread up from the grave)

Foot surgery sucks, I have an issue with my left foot that requires yearly surgery and monthly injections. Feet are a nightmare to damage, especially if you're a working man, because if you can't walk there's not much you can do. :(

I know your pain, dude. I hope everything works out for you.

My advice is to spend time in the garden, or a park, or outdoors. When you've got one of those bastard things on your foot then it becomes a nightmare just getting outside. I spent several months gazing out of a window just because of that - and ended up heavily depressed as a result. Make sure you've got lifelines, because it's damned surprising how much harder it is to do anything when you can't move easily.

PM me if you need advice, or anything. I have too much experience being on the receiving end of these things, so i'll be glad to help if I can.

    :)

Hope the surgery goes well and hope your recovery doesn't drive you crazy...load up on some books to read (TF's of course) and get your place set up so getting to the loo and fridge isn't a killer..also, you may not get to drive for a while, so get those rides lined up as well.. Good luck!!

Thanks to everyone for the support. I'm already a little depressed that I'll be confined to my room for the first few weeks or so, but maybe I could convince my parents to get me some DVDs of some TV shows that I like, hopefully things will go faster...
