...at the end of August and was wondering, what are some kickass places to go to? Not just for Transformery/other plasticy goodness, but some generally cool places? Though of course, I'm also interested in hitting up a few great Japanese toy/hobby shops.

After some intense research (read: 1 minute of googling) I found two nifty-sounding toy shops; Kiddy Land and Yamashiroya. They're still open, yeah? Anywhere else I should try to hit up to waste some hard earned money? And any really great places I can take my wife? I don't want to go to department stores or the like, as we have many branches of Japanese department stores (like Mitsukoshi) here in Taiwan.

So yeah, any places you'd recommend? Oh, I'll only be in Tokyo itself for about two days, if that matters.

Yamashiroya's awesome. Definitely worth checking out.

As for departmental stores, I would recommend giving 'em a miss; there's hardly anything there toywise, except for Masked Riders, Sentai, PreCure....

Kiddly Land is a decent toy store. Has about 5 floors - each dedicated to different areas (Boys toys, Girls Toys, Anime related, Hello Kitty/Snoopy,etc)

if i give you about 30,000 yen, can you get me an autograph from a real life Yakuza?
I'd pay extra if he'd sign a sword.

Akihabara is easily the best place to go for toy hunting.

Spend the entire day there. You'll be happy for it.

Yeah, I was just reading about Akihabara not long after posting this. It's in Tokyo right? And I definitely want to go see that life-size Gundam if it's in Tokyo too! (My knowledge of Japan is woefully lacking)

My wife and I made a deal that we each get one day for going to the places we want to go, so I plan on making the most of my day :D  ...mainly because the first two days of our trip are going to be spent at Disney...yay...

...... I am jealous of you. But then again, you'll probably have trouble understanding the Japanese people talking.

If you can, I would recommend Himeji Castle. Definitely a breathtaking sight.

EDIT: nevermind, Himeji isn't in Tokyo (the days that I was in Japan sort of blended together in my mind). Asakusa is a pretty cool shopping place with a couple of toy shops (it's where I managed to find Henkei Red Alert), and Tokyo Tocho has a great view.
