I think the term "Anatomical Robots" Applies to all Transformers. I'm not sure why the movie tried to coin it as "Autonomous" Robots in some way to make the name "Autobot" seem as though it had come from a very long word and the Transformers Shortened it for the sake of comfort.

 

I've just chosen to completly ignore that line. As far I'm concerned, it doesn't exist. HAha!

 

I think in the script Prime says a line like, "For their treachery, these robots were named "Decepticons" as constant reminders of their betrayal." Or something along those lines. It didn't make it into the movie.

I'm not sure where 'anatomical robots' comes from--but 'autonomous robots' was intended to give them a name that could explain 'Autobot' without being quite as kiddy as 'Autobot' really is.

 

pretty sure Prime said " We are Autonomous Robotic organisms from the planet Cybertron." So he's saying that the whole race is called Autonomous.

 

The way I interpreted it was that ALL Cybertronians were Autobots, but Megs and his crew were Decepticons in addition to being Autobots.

Like how I'm a human, and Alex Rodriguez is a human, but A-rod is also a Yankee and I'm not.


Autobot = species
Decepticon = a particular group within the species.

 

"Autonomous" is not a proper noun. It's just a regular ol' English word that means they are not under the control of anything else.

A robot in a car factory is under the control of whoever programmed it. It cannot do whatever it wishes. An autonomous robot needs no instructions from the outside and operates totally on it's own.

Apart from Megatron and Starscream, they were all just the Constructicons in disguise.

 

I'm not so sure myself where I got the 'Anatomical Robots' thing from. Maybe I was thinking of the Anatomically Correct Silver Surfer (ROTSS) in the F4 Teaser trailer. It only occured me how silly that comment sounded when I was munching on Honey Nuts......  

 

The movie implies that "Decepticon" is a made up name by Megatron for his band of psychotic misfits.

Autobot was what they (Transformers) describe themselves as a group. The term Autobot as defalt for anything besides a Decepticon and visa-versa.

 

Which makes sense in the context of the storyline, really, Megatron betrayed the state with his Decepticons. There would be no need for the people he betrayed to start calling themselves by a different name if they were already called Autobots in the first place.

So the most logical explanation is, they're all Autobots.

 

Deceptive Constructs, a name conceived by MEGATRON to describe his new off-shoot faction of the original Autonomous Robots (which he used to be).

 

The Decepticons are called Decepticons because of their betrayal against the Autobots. thats what i got from one of the draft scripts and the graphic novel.

from what i gather they are no different from the autobots except that they are an Separatist force commanded by Megatron, and all happen to be evil or psychotic!
