In the first movie as we all know Prime called Megatron his brother. So if they're brothers wouldn't Megatron be a decendent of the primes in ROTF as well?

According to the novel they are indeed literal brothers... BUT I prefer to think that in the film he meant brother as in "fellow transformer" like OptimusPrimeFour suggested.

They both ruled as brothers back on Cybertron, being co-rulers, with Megatron leading the armies and with Optimus leading the rest. So by "brother", he ment "former comrade".

Where do you know that? Are you making this up? It's not clear from what we see in the movies. I thought they were real brothers too, with Megatron being a Prime somehow.

    I've been wondering that myself!

What if, IF...Optimus Prime and Megatron are brothers, protoform brothers (like Skids & Mudflap).

That would explain these 3 points:

Why Optimus called Megatron "brother" shortly after he was killed in the 2007 Movie.

How Megatron was resurrected by a shard of the AllSpark in ROTF after he was killed by absorbing its power through his chest in the 2007 Movie.

In ROTF, The Fallen stated that only a Prime could defeat him. If Megatron is in fact, Optimus Prime's protoform brother, then Megatron is a Prime himself an thus was able to kill Optimus in the forest fight in ROTF.

People still have problems undestanding this.

The Fallen said only a Prime could kill him, he NEVER stated that only a Prime could kill a Prime but that's the way everyone understood it.

This is answered very clearly in both the prequel novel and comic.
Please familiarize yourself with either those or the 5,000,000 other threads about this topic where it is explained in great detail.
    Thank you

I had a few ideas about the "brother" thing.

1-As mentioned before, they are brothers in that they are the same species

2-Again, as mentioned before, they are brothers in that they were coleaders.

3-They were born in the same batch of hatchlings. This is never really explained how this works in terms of parentage. It could be that a Prime and a regular cybertronian...um...created Optimus' protoform and placed its incubation pod in the same batch as Megatron.

4-Prime is Megatron's adopted brother. This could be supported by the Defiance comic books, as Optimus does not know he is a "Prime." It could create a level of Shakespearing tragedy. Optimus could have been the favorite son, making Megatron jealous and, after secretly killing their father (one of the DS games makes reference to this) Megatron assumes control and places Optimus in the less powerful position of heading up sciences.

I don't think they could be protoform brothers like the Twins because the implication there is that they were once one body and they split into two forms (like Monozygotic twins). They share many characteristics and people have photoshoped their bodies together to get an idea of what they originally looked like. Megatron and Prime do not share that.

Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman made the scene in Transformers ambiguous, meaning it could be either real brothers or brothers-in-arms, but additional information made it clear they WERE brothers, and even that Megatron murdered his and Optimus's father (That'd be Sentinel Prime).

However, when Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen came up with Prime's backstory being connected to the Fallen's (A late addition to integrate the Fallen more into the Plot), this was retconned so Prime and Megatron were brothers-in-arms because they were co-rulers of Cybertron.

Which it's a shame. I liked the idea of them being blood brothers. :(

Why are people bolding random words? Is it a new internet meme or something?

There are better ways to get noticed, like posting in well written English.

Its only a Prime can kill The Fallen because his brothers nearly killed him.

Optimus and Megatron were rulers of Cybertron before the war.

Someone should put up a poll in an effort to lay this one to rest.
