Well, technically, I wouldn't say "stupid" I'd probably go more with something like "trusting of a fool" Yeah. That feels about right. I decided, blah, I don't want to wait until June, I want some movie Prime stuff NOW! So, I go on ebay, look for stuff, find the new chrome version of him, and watch it..Now, there were 2 more BIN at 30$ with 40$ in shipping. The one I was watching was at 31.99$ with 30$ shipping.

Here's the problem. I couldn't be at my desk, so I left a friend to watch over it. I told her to put a max bid in of 40$--that way if it went over that, I'd just do the buy it now one..

I come back, and see I've won. Of course I won. Because instead of putting a bid in of $40.00 she some how forgot to put the little decimal in there..So my max bid looked something like this..

    Bid History Item number: 280104206763
    Your maximum bid: US $4,000.00
Item title: Transformers movie Optimus Prime Chrome ver test shot
    Time left: Auction has ended.
Bidder Bid Amount Date of bid

    samiwcp( 114) US $46.99 Apr-13-07 11:12:22 PDT
    toy_freak1( 1375) US $45.99 Apr-13-07 11:15:57 PDT
    2005edwink( 57) US $39.99 Apr-12-07 15:43:13 PDT
    toy_freak1( 1375) US $30.99 Apr-12-07 15:38:48 PDT
    2005edwink( 57) US $29.99 Apr-12-07 15:24:56 PDT
    toy_freak1( 1375) US $25.99 Apr-12-07 15:38:12 PDT

Sure, I was able to get it by going over the 70$ one by a couple of bucks, but, that could have gone really really bad..Let that be a lesson kids. Trust no one.

Wow! Close one. I almost did that once. Instead of putting in 100, I put in 1000. Thank God for "Are you sure?" prompts.

Yeah, apparently she didn't notice any such prompts enough to make her question such a bid..

I've passed the "confirm" page with a bid of 3000 before... on a cell phone.

    I retracted.

    Funny, if you catch it.

Weird, it seems that "toy_freak1" is bidding on all the movie toys all the time yet he never seems to win anything.

Hehe. I've done this; I put down a bid of £5500 on a rare Zoid a couple of years ago (I meant to put £55.00). I didn't notice either; I was being hassled on IMs by about a dozen people at the time.
    Ooooooooooooops.
Fortunately it ended on £52, so all was good.
(it was a REALLY nice Zoid too)

But on a plus note, I got the guy, well, supposedly another person who just happens to have all the movie proto toys and designs each ebay page in the same style etc etc ..But he sold me both the Ratchet and Ironhide for 95$ total. I'm liking it! Can't wait!

Most of the Chinese sellers with testshots seem to use exactly the same text in their auctions. "WOH!" :lol
However, the ones I've dealt with have all been very good. Congrats on picking up Ironhide & Ratchet, they're both superb toys.

Luckily it worked out for you not too badly, but just so you know, you can retract a bid in a case like that where it's a fairly obvious mistake that your max. bid was 4000, not 40. I know i've read on ebay that is an acceptable reason for retracting a bid, I think you have to retract it within a short period of time though.

(of course, I'm probably stating the obvious here, if thats the case, I uh, retract my statement)

I don't think you can retract your bid with less than 12 hours to go.

Then they would've definitely deserved to have won the auction.
