So I um calculated what it would cost for me to buy all the covers I've missed...

Which ones stood out as the most expensive? Seems like the prices on these back issues will continue to slide.

    I suppose I should've included prices eh?
Our winnah! IDW Beast Wars #1 Ext. Gatefold Incentive Cover 99.95

    Honorable mentions -
    IDW TF :
#1 Incentive Andrew Wildman Wraparound Cover 79.95
#2 Incentive Ratchet Cover & mini prints 79.95
#3 Incentive Blitzwing Cover & Mini Prints 79.95
    and
Universe #1 Alt. Unicron Cover 79.95

    PLUS!
    Transformers G1: Infiltration #1
    by IDW
Incentive Guido Guidi Autobot/Decepticon Drawing $?.?? each

?.?? does not make me think cheap and affordable! (and no I didn't include it in the list)

If you take out those 5 the cost comes down to 1536.19 and you still have to get ready for Beast Wars #4, IDW TF #5 and 6 and the rest of TF: Generations!

And this is why variant covers are stupid.

IDW is worse that DW with the variants. I thought DW was bad for making a #4 of the ongoing a variant but then IDW has them for every issue. The Decepticon/Autobot one from the first and second limited were a nice contrast but 4 covers on the same book each month is just stupid. I've gotten 1 of each except #0 where I got 2, a reading one and a prestine hopefully soon to be autographed one.

It's not them, it's you. People need to learn that they don't need to buy all the covers.I get one copy of each issue, getting whichever cover I think looks coolest. Why would anyone need to buy them all? They give you choices in the different covers. I for one love the Bumblebee holding the big gun cover, but someone else might like the one of the humans more. Do they hope that some people will be crazy enough to buy them all? Of course. But don't complain about how much it would cost to get them all, because you don't have to get them all.

    What? No it's them! ;)

I kid. I kid. I know it's me, I said a few times how I want to be a completist. I'm not trying to say DW or IDW or OTFCC or whoever is bad for making variant covers (in fact it gives more work to artists and more work for them = :D  ) I was just trying to say I'm really behind on my completism...

Four regular covers. There's 2-3 'regular incentives' and 1 or 2 megahellastoopidrare covers per issue. I bought a lot of Dreamwave dupes and incentives, and even I think what IDW's doing is fucking retarded.
I'm just buying the contiguous covers for Infiltration and maaaybe another cover if the image strikes my fancy (1 and 3 I think I got a dupe, 2 and 4 nope). For Beast Wars, I'm not even doing that; I'm getting the one cover I like best...which have all been Don's so far. :lol

As for incentives, as much as I like those (all Guidi's?) heavily toy-influenced characters on the white background 'regular incentives,' I'm not going to track them down/pay through the nose. If those were all just one of the regular four variants, I'd definitely pick them up, but otherwise, no thanks.

Try what I'm doing with Infinite Crisis. Get one issue, and download a picture copy of the other cover. If you really want to have it in hand, then print off that copy. You'll go through printer ink pretty quick, but it's cheaper than buying dozens of redundant issues.

Also, if you're lucky, sometimes you might find some of the stuff for cheap. Last year I found a copy of the DW v2 #6 Ultra Magnus cover for 50 cents and the DW v1 #1 foil cover for $5.

It probably wouldn't work with IDW stuff since they're really new and all.

IDW has turned me off of being a Transformers completist, they just do way to many covers.

Transformers: Infiltration #0-4 has 41 covers.
Transformers: Beast Wars #1-3 has 22 covers.
Transformers: Generations #1-2 has 9 covers.

Anyway, here's what I'm missing... dunno how much it'll cost to get them all and I don't think I will anymore (can't afford to and IDW does way to many). I'll be a semi-completist and just get the regular covers and maybe some retailer exclusives.

Nah, 's why aiming to get more than one or two is stupid. The above is excellent numerical evidence for the number of people trying to collect everything being in double or triple digits at most.

Personally I can just about understand buying a copy of something to read and a copy to collect. I'd much rather buy an issue if I really like the series, grab a trade later (if the paper quality is decent) and not keep the issues.

which was a blessing in disguise for me i was buying the incentives at first but soon realised WTF am i doing, if anything i was draining my bank account. so now I buy the 4 regular covers (even thats a little silly) thanks to IDW's sillyness of whoring out every goddamn issue with countless incentives I no longer feel the need, or even desire to track down and paying out the ass for these fuckin things. i hear that BW gatefold incentive fetches a pretty penny, i just might ebay it along with my other incentives

Honestly, even as much as I adore the BW comic, this is fucking ridiculous on IDW's part. They're taking advantage of the dedicated fanbase for a quick & easy buck, for almost no extra effort on their part. No, fans don't have to buy these things. But IDW knows there are just enough fans that will spend $80 on a new piece of cardboard that they're only too happy to keep making more and more and more.
