The ending was very, very rushed. The first half was brilliant. Then they went into space and the film turned into a big "WTF" moment. I mean dancing on the Junkion planet? This moment and some others especially Grimlock (no offence) took the seriousness away from the film.

And yeah Dark of the Moon is in my top 5, it was a really, really good action film - I didn't say it was the best film ever, but the action was amazing.

Actually, Dark of the moon was the best of the Bay films films (IMHO) But the lack of characterization really bugged me.....

Now, I've only seen bits and pieces of the Original movie....so I can't really comment on which is better.

Although Orson Wells as Unicron pretty much beats everything....

In my opinion the 1986 transformers movie is better than all the live action bayfilms.

I enjoyed the Bay films, but they don't hold a candle to the 1986 movie.

While I do enjoy DOTM, in sheer terms of quality all around, The Original Movie will always reign supreme.

For me: ooohhh yeah. I HATE the '86 film with a seething passion. I LOVED Sentinel Prime, though. I prefer RotF over the '86 fucking film.

The '86 movie was pretty balsy to send Optimus and most of the original Ark crew to the Well of Allsparks and have them replaced by a new group whom then became the stars of the third season. The movie was good but the third season just wasn't interesting to me.

Megatron was truly the great Decepticon warlord in Movie 1 but then reverted to his G1 self of losing with no dignity except he doesn't walk away without losing body parts at least in ROTF.

The original movie had some pretty cringe-worthy moments, but Bayformers are cringe-worthy by default. It's kinda like choosing between a shock collar on a timer or an electric chair.

I can appreciate TFTM for introducing revolutionary, long-lasting characters and ideas to the Transformers brand that kept it fresh. Meanwhile, Bay introduced...shred-bots? The Magic Cube? Transformers as the descendants of organics? Traitorous Sentinel Prime? Guro-Fetishist Optimus Prime? Private Dick Cannon the Blenderbot?

If the 86 movie was released as a stand alone, it would be pretty poor. However as a sort of bridge between the second and third season its actually pretty damn good.

I love the live action films despite their faults. And make no mistake, many of the complaints people have about the films are valid. Especially those who complain about there being too much focus on the humans. I watch Transformers to see giant robots doing their thing. I could care less about the humans.

I watched the 86 movie again on the Hub a couple nights ago. It's still the best Transformers film, even though the fact that Hot Rod gets to be leader after pretty much helping to cause Prime's death still kind of bugs me.

    Yep.

I found it to be his punishment, force him to be the leader when he's not ready. Well you helped our nemesis kill our beloved leader, let's see who can accidently kill you?

The opposite of the Decepticons, you kill your leader so that YOU become the leader, because you want to.

    :lol

Also watched it a couple of days ago, popped in the DVD. The iconic sounds and lines still make me smile.

Hook's "Uncharasmatic bore like you" pointing at you is so well animated.

Better than all the live-action movies put together, never get bored of watching it either.

Embrace the 80's hair metal, love the 80's hair metal, BE the 80's hair metal!!!

Edit: I think 'Instuments of Destruction' is really an appropriate song for the shuttle massacre scene.

Ok I must admit I was in the same boat as you until I re-watched it on Sunday, and I was like damn..That's a great movie, and you know I don't care if he was a bad leader I get chills when Hot Rod held the Matrix, and you heard Optimus voice..."Arise...Rodimus Prime."...."This is the end of the road, Galvatron!". This movie now holds as a #1 classic cartoon movie for me.
