So how come Red Alert isn't related to Sideswipe/Sunstreaker?

If Sunstreaker and Sideswipe are "twins" where there hell does that leave Red Alert? A long lost brother? I mean he's a repaint of a twin but he's not related to them? Explain!

Sharing a mold =/= brother. The 'brother' thing depends on the canon, but has never been shown to be secondary to the mold. That's the closest thing to a 'real' answer.

I always viewed Red Alert as a brother of Inferno.

I don't think he was related to Sunstreaker/Sideswipe at all...

Body should have nothing to do with it.

If anything given personality, I'd consider Cliffjumper to be a younger brother of Streaker and Sideswipe.

Sideswipe and Sunstreaker are like fraternal Spark twins: they were incubated together(in a "spark womb") but then put into different model robots. Red Alert, however, is a later production model of the same type of robot that Sideswipe is.

Now, that's just my interpretation, but as I don't think there's been any offical explination, it is as good as any.

On a side note, I wonder if Red Alert secretly hates Sunstreaker?

Red Alert is the red-headed step-child of the family.

If body mold was the only criteria then Prowl and Bluestreak would be brothers. I think it goes more by when they were created than by what they look like.

Because in the years prior to 1984, somebody at Hasbro told the guy writing the bios, "Make those two Lamborghinis brothers. Yeah, that's the ticket. Kids'll like that shit and want both toys"...without thinking that they might use one of the other available Lamborghini decos the following year.

There's never been anything that says he is or isn't related to the twins, either as brother, or cousin, or whatnot. So make your own decision about it. :)

If Sideswipe and Sunstreaker had been made into a different type of car, would you still think Red Alert is related to them?

How come Thundercracker, Starscream, and Skywarp don't call each other brothers? What about Ironhide and Ratchet? Prowl, Bluestreak, and Smokescreen? I'd go with the made-at-the-same-time + storyline thing, as to Sunstreaker and Sideswipe. The writers said they're brothers, so they are. Red Alert came later, isn't he one of the Protectobots?

the real world answer would be the writers obviously wanted to take him in a different direction

an in-fiction explanation would be that him and Sideswipe only share the same Earth modes. On their native Cybertron they probably look different

Because of the TFs you mention, only Sunstreaker and Sideswipe ARE brothers. And Red Alert is not a Protectobot, he was introduced separately in Season 2.

It's like when you're walking down the street, and you see someone who looks exactly like a friend of yours. But it's a totally different person.

I always figured Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were made (or got their spark) at the same time. Red Alert, while the same mode as Sideswipe, was created later. Without knowing esactly how transformers become to be, thta is my be hypothesis.

Sideswipe and Sunstreaker have the same Daddy, Red Alert and Inferno where both volunteer Firefighters back on Cybertron and have different Daddys.

now as to why they look the same? in 1984 there where only a handfull of cool cars that Teletraan 1 decided to scan to repair the autobots
