An unexpected side effect of the 2010 flooding in parts of Sindh, Pakistan, was that millions of spiders climbed up into the trees to escape the rising flood waters; because of the scale of the flooding and the fact that the water took so long to recede, many trees became cocooned in spiderwebs. People in the area had never seen this phenomenon before. (Courtesy: National Geographic)
It looks like a meteorite hit a tree, but it's so light that there's no damage.

Man, if only I could train spiders to do that to people's gardens in the middle of the night, then laugh at their expressions when they wake up to their trees and shrubs covered in webbing. It'd beat the hell outta TP'ing, for sure.

That's rather terrifying looking (maybe what I'd imagine trees to look like years after a nuclear apocalypse or something), but I agree that in some weird way it is kind of beautiful... to look at in a picture anyway. Seeing it in real life would gross me out way too much.

That would suck ass to be underneath the tree when all the spiders decide to fall out.

Apparently those spidertrees kept down the mosquito population post-flood, which likely lessened the prevalence of malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases in the in aftermath.

Spiders are your friends, even if they scare you.

    Kill it with fire.

If I saw that in person, I'd vomit and go into a panic attack.
